Nintendo Music has expanded its Mario Kart World rollout with a new wave of Free Roam playlists, adding music from a wide range of Nintendo franchises.
The update brings curated selections from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, Donkey Kong Country, Luigi’s Mansion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! and the unexpectedly included Flipnote Studio — broadening the soundtrack options for players on Nintendo Switch and other Nintendo platforms.
The new Free Roam additions include multiple tracks from each franchise.
From Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island the playlist features Opening Melody; Flower Field BGM in Ska and Jazz arrangements; Stage Boss in Jazz and Rock ’n’ Roll; Athletic BGM; and Bowser themes.
Donkey Kong Country contributes the DK Island Swing theme.
Luigi’s Mansion is represented by a humming version of the Title Theme.
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! adds a uniquely titled track, Voiced Being Carried on the Waves.
Flipnote Studio joins the rotation with Mario Drawing Song.
These franchises span Nintendo platform history: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island originally debuted on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System; Donkey Kong Country was first released for the SNES and developed by Rare; Luigi’s Mansion launched on Nintendo’s GameCube; WarioWare’s microgame experiments began on the Game Boy Advance; and Flipnote Studio originated as a creative app on the Nintendo DSi.
The inclusion of tracks from across that legacy underscores Nintendo Music’s effort to draw from decades of its catalog.
Commenting on the additions, the site’s contributor Roberto Diaz said he expected non-Mario entries such as Donkey Kong, Luigi and Wario, but that Flipnote Studio’s appearance was a pleasant surprise.
He added that the playlists make for enjoyable background music while exploring Mario Kart World or during general play sessions.
This update follows other recent Nintendo Music expansions, which have included large additions tied to franchise-themed events and releases.
