Capcom will offer special Nintendo Switch eShop download cards for Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection in Japan, giving fans a physical retail option for the digital release.
The collection, developed and published by Capcom, launched on Nintendo Switch in April 2023 and compiles the classic Mega Man Battle Network series that originally debuted on the Game Boy Advance.
Capcom confirmed the eShop download cards will be available at electronic retailers and convenience stores across Japan beginning March 27, 2023.
The cards are designed as tribute pieces, with artwork that reimagines the collection’s box art as a Game Boy Advance cartridge to recall the series’ original GBA home.
Retail options include a card for the full Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection as well as separate eShop download cards for Volume 1 and Volume 2.
The company said these separate-volume cards will carry similar Game Boy Advance–style cartridge artwork to match the full-collection design.
As part of a limited retail campaign, Capcom is partnering with major convenience chains 7-Eleven and Lawson.
Customers who purchase the download cards at participating 7-Eleven and Lawson stores will receive a special in-game Battle Chip Set containing three chips selected by Mega Man Battle Network scenario writer Masakazu Eguchi.
Capcom also announced a referral element to the promotion: players who refer friends to the campaign can obtain additional Battle Chip Sets as part of the offer.
