These highly anticipated titles are set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, solidifying the platform as the new home for Generation 10 of the iconic series.

Both titles are slated for a 2027 release, further expanding Nintendo's portfolio of premier Switch 2 exclusives. The Pokémon Presents showcase offered an exciting first look at the new starter Pokémon that trainers will encounter in Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.

As with previous generations, the journey begins with a choice between three distinct starters: the Grass-type Browt, the Fire-type Pombon, and the Water-type Gecqua. According to the official press release from The Pokémon Company, here are key details about the Generation 10 starter Pokémon: Browt – Known as the Bean Chick Pokémon, Browt is a Grass-type starter that stands at 1 foot (0.3 meters) tall and weighs 7.7 lbs.

It comes with the Overgrow ability, a staple for Grass-type starters in the franchise. Pombon – The Fire-type option, Pombon, is categorized as the Puppy Pokémon.

Slightly taller and heavier, this starter measures 1 foot 4 inches (0.4 meters) and weighs 14.8 lbs.

(6.7 kg).

Its ability is Blaze, a familiar trait among Fire-type starters. Gecqua – Players who prefer Water-types can select Gecqua, the Water Gecko Pokémon.

Gecqua is 1 foot (0.3 meters) tall and 9.5 lbs.

(4.3 kg) in weight, equipped with the Torrent ability. Game Freak’s director emphasized in the press release that the team is “dedicated to delivering innovative gameplay and memorable new adventures for both longtime fans and new players” with the debut of Generation 10.

The exclusivity of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves to Nintendo Switch 2 also represents a significant step forward in leveraging the hardware’s capabilities for the series. Since its inception in 1996, the Pokémon series has remained a global phenomenon, with each new generation breaking new sales milestones and expanding the legendary world of Pokémon.

Previous mainline entries, such as Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, have set high expectations for gameplay innovation and storytelling.

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves appear poised to build on that legacy. The announcement also comes amid a series of major updates for the Pokémon franchise, including new content for the upcoming 2026 Pokémon World Championships and expanded offerings on Nintendo Switch Online, such as the addition of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness in March 2026. With Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves confirmed for a 2027 release, the next generation of Pokémon trainers can look forward to fresh adventures, an expanded Pokédex, and a cutting-edge gaming experience tailored to the Nintendo Switch 2.
