Nintendo has issued a free update for Mario Tennis Fever on Switch 2, moving the game to Version 1.1.0 on July 15, 2026.

The patch introduces a Super Mario Galaxy–inspired court, a new Fever Racket, GameShare support via GameChat, new Luma colors, Mario’s classic outfit and a broad set of balance changes and bug fixes.

According to Nintendo’s support notes, Version 1.1.0 “adds GameShare and Play via GameChat,” enabling players to join matches through GameChat even if they do not own the game; use of GameChat requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

The company also confirms the update is free to download for players on Switch 2.

Key additions

- Galaxy Court: A new court themed on Super Mario Galaxy has been added.

The court’s design places matches on a small, spherical planet where balls bounce higher and court geometry varies between Free Play/Ranked and Special Match modes.

- Galaxy Court Match: A new special match type that plays on a spherical court and introduces three varieties of “Prankster Comets,” each altering match strategy as the game progresses.

- Black Hole Racket: A new Fever Racket that creates a black hole when a Fever Shot lands.

Nintendo describes the effect as pulling nearby players toward the hole, damaging HP when players approach; if HP reaches zero and a player is knocked out, they will be sucked into the black hole.

The black holes do not attract incoming balls.

- Other additions: Five new Luma colors, Mario’s classic outfit as a five-medal reward, and the ability to use Academy Court (Grass/Hard/Clay) in court selection.

Balance and fixes

The patch contains targeted character adjustments and Fever Racket tweaks.

Examples from Nintendo’s notes include increased shot strength for Diddy Kong, improved running speed and sideline aiming for Dry Bones, and vertical reach increases for Luigi and Baby Luigi.

Several racket behaviors were adjusted — for instance, the Freezing Racket now expires strictly after 15 seconds rather than a rally count, and the Star Racket removes Mini Mushroom effects while active.

Nintendo also refined Star Shot detection to make Star Shots easier to execute.

Quality-of-life and matchmaking changes include a Random option for racket selection, adjustments to Ranked Match mode rotation to include Galaxy Court, and an option to disable pressing A and B together to hit a flat shot.

Nintendo states the update contains “several other adjustments and fixes” aimed at improving the overall gameplay experience.

The full patch details are available on Nintendo’s official support page for Mario Tennis Fever.
