Nintendo continues to bolster its rich retro games library by bringing Mario Paint, the classic 1992 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) title, to Nintendo Switch Online.
Originally developed and published by Nintendo, Mario Paint is known for its creative drawing tools, music composition minigame, and unique gameplay that distinguished it from other Mario titles.
Its original release on the SNES made a significant impact by offering players an early way to interact with art and music creation on a home console, thanks to the system's proprietary mouse peripheral.
Now available for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, Mario Paint can be accessed through the "Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Classics" app, which is easily downloadable from the Nintendo eShop.
This addition further expands the Switch's growing catalog of retro titles, allowing a new generation to experience one of the most imaginative entries in Nintendo's history.
Celebrating Mario Paint's debut on Switch Online, the company has introduced updated controls leveraging the Joy-Con 2 hardware when played on the upcoming Switch 2 console.
This enhancement modernizes the original's mouse-based interactions, translating them seamlessly to contemporary hardware for an improved user experience.
According to Nintendo's official statement, the implementation preserves the game's original feel while optimizing responsiveness and precision for today’s players.
In conjunction with the game’s release, Nintendo has also made the complete Mario Paint soundtrack accessible through the Nintendo Music app.
Members of Nintendo Switch Online can enjoy 19 remastered tracks at no additional cost.
Available for download on both iOS and Android devices, the Nintendo Music app offers easy access to beloved game soundtracks, reinforcing Nintendo’s commitment to celebrating its diverse audio legacy.
Mario Paint’s arrival on Nintendo Switch Online underscores the company’s ongoing effort to provide value and nostalgia for its fanbase while embracing modern gameplay standards.
With a comprehensive music library now at players’ fingertips and enhanced controls supporting creative exploration, both longtime Nintendo enthusiasts and newcomers can rediscover the enduring charm of this landmark title.
For more updates, fans are encouraged to follow future Nintendo Direct presentations and monitor the Nintendo eShop for upcoming releases.
