Konami's Super Basketball Returns: Classic Arcade Game Launches on Nintendo Switch and PS4 via Arcade Archives

Konami's Super Basketball, one of the earliest arcade basketball games, is set to make a much-anticipated comeback on modern platforms.

The classic sports title will be available on July 17th through Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives series, offering retro gaming enthusiasts a chance to experience this piece of video game history on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

The game will be sold digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop and the PlayStation Store at a price of $7.99. Originally released in arcades in 1984, Super Basketball is notable as Konami’s first-ever basketball title.

It laid the groundwork for subsequent Konami sports classics such as Double Dribble (1986), Punk Shot (1990), Run and Gun (1993), Run and Gun II (1996), and NBA Play By Play (1998).

Super Basketball established a foundation for the company’s reputation in sports gaming, highlighting fast-paced action, accessible controls, and engaging arcade-style gameplay. Hamster Corporation, known for faithfully re-releasing classic arcade hits through the Arcade Archives line, brings Super Basketball to a new generation of players.

According to Hamster’s official description, the game challenges players to choose from 10 teams and overcome a point deficit at the start of each match.

It was previously included in the 2007 Nintendo DS collection Konami Arcade Collection.

In North America, the collection was renamed Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits and saw Super Basketball rebranded simply as Basketball, despite its original U.S.

arcade release under the Super Basketball moniker.
