Nintendo Switch 2 Leads Japanese Boxed Charts with First-Party Dominance
Nintendo’s latest hardware, the Nintendo Switch 2, continues to lead the Japanese console market according to newly released boxed charts from Famitsu.
The week of August 18th to 24th saw Nintendo’s first-party titles secure commanding positions in the top ten, underlining the company’s enduring popularity in its home market and the growing momentum behind its newest hardware iteration.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza Extend Sales Streaks
Topping the charts this week, Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2 sold an impressive 30,202 units, bringing its cumulative sales to 1,620,741 copies.
Right behind, Donkey Kong Bananza also maintained its strong market presence with 8,424 units sold, totaling 275,679 units since release.
The continued success of these Nintendo exclusives highlights the strength and appeal of the company’s first-party development pipeline.
The only new title to break into the charts this week was Tetsudou Nippon! RealPro Tokyo-Kanagawa! Tokyu Dentetsu Hen for the Nintendo Switch, debuting at number ten with a respectable 2,497 copies sold.
Notably, no PlayStation or Xbox titles appeared in this week’s top ten, signaling a clean sweep by Nintendo across the boxed software charts.

Nintendo Switch Hardware Stays On Top
On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold a category-leading 35,359 units, further establishing its momentum with a lifetime tally of 1,892,123 units.
The Switch OLED followed with 9,922 units sold, while the Switch Lite accounted for 5,556 units.
These combined sales reflect the continued strong performance of the broader Nintendo Switch family, which collectively moved 17,945 units over the week.
In contrast, PlayStation 5 hardware—spanning the standard, Pro, and Digital Editions—sold a total of 6,428 units, less than half of Switch family performance.
Xbox Series X and Series S saw lower numbers, with 119 and 118 units sold respectively.
No Xbox title appeared in the top software rankings this week, underscoring Nintendo’s current dominance in both hardware and software in Japan.

A Nintendo Japan spokesperson commented on the market’s performance, stating that strong sales figures across all hardware platforms ultimately benefit the entire industry, emphasizing a healthy competitive environment that supports both players and developers.
