The Japanese video game market experienced another energetic week, with several high-profile launches making significant impacts according to the latest software and hardware sales data from Famitsu.
Nintendo Switch maintained its robust presence, propelled by the highly anticipated release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, a dual-pack that brings two of Nintendo’s most celebrated 3D platformers to the latest generation of hardware.
Super Mario Galaxy Collection Debuts Strongly on Nintendo Switch
In its first week of release, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch secured second place on the charts, selling 48,265 copies.
This noteworthy launch reaffirms the enduring popularity of Nintendo’s iconic Mario franchise and demonstrates the appetite among Japanese gamers for polished remasters and collection packs on current hardware.
Topping the chart is Sucker Punch Productions' Ghost of Yotei, which made an exceptional debut on PlayStation 5 with 120,196 units sold.
The game’s strong start not only highlights the momentum of major third-party releases in Japan but also signals healthy competition in the current generation’s software lineup.
Other prominent entries include Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, which appeared across multiple platforms and held third, fifth, and seventh positions for Switch, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2, respectively.
The new tactical RPG installment amassed combined strong sales, with the Switch version alone moving 41,333 copies in its opening week.
Established franchises also made their presence felt.
Mario Kart World for Switch 2 continued its impressive sales streak, while perennial chart-topper Minecraft reached a lifetime figure exceeding 4 million units on the Nintendo Switch platform.
Silent Hill f, last week’s frontrunner, slid to eighth position as new titles captured player interest.
