Mario Kart World Dominates Japanese Sales Charts as Nintendo Switch 2 Surges Ahead Famitsu, the prominent Japanese gaming publication, has released its latest estimated sales data for both software and hardware covering the period from August 4th to August 17th.

The report underlines a remarkable moment for Nintendo, as Mario Kart World, the highly anticipated launch title for Nintendo Switch 2, asserted its dominance across the Japanese games market. According to Famitsu’s data, Mario Kart World sold an impressive 144,911 physical units during the two-week charting window.

Its stellar performance more than doubled the sales of its closest competitor, Donkey Kong Bananza, which sold 60,200 units on Switch 2 for the period.

This latest push brings Mario Kart World's cumulative sales figures to 1,595,390 units since its release, solidifying its status as a flagship title for Nintendo’s new hardware. Nintendo’s first-party titles continue to show extraordinary resilience and popularity among Japanese gamers.

Both Switch and Switch 2 versions of Super Mario Party Jamboree maintained spots within the top ten, alongside evergreens like Minecraft and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Konami achieved a notable debut with Gradius Origins, which entered the charts at sixth place on Nintendo Switch, reflecting the enduring appeal of classic franchises. Here’s the top five from the latest Famitsu chart: 1.

Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV – 19,172 units (47,591 total) The platform breakdown further emphasizes Nintendo's market leadership.

Out of the top ten games, eight are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch family, whether on the original hardware or the newer Switch 2.

This continued momentum highlights the enduring appeal of Nintendo’s software ecosystem as well as the strategic timing of blockbuster releases. On the hardware front, Nintendo Switch 2 is reinforcing its position as the preferred console in Japan, with 179,641 units sold in the latest tracking period.

The cumulative hardware sales for the Switch 2 are now approaching the two-million mark at 1,856,764 total units.

The Switch OLED and Switch Lite saw respective sales of 18,236 and 13,135 units, outpacing all competing platforms.

PlayStation 5 models collectively posted 17,131 units sold, while Xbox Series X|S variants remained further down the list, with sales figures in the hundreds. Famitsu’s updated charts once again illustrate Nintendo's robust performance across both hardware and software spheres.

With Mario Kart World leading as the definitive system seller for Nintendo Switch 2, and key franchise titles consistently inhabiting top chart positions, Nintendo’s strategy in the Japanese market appears as strong as ever.
