Retroid Pocket Flip 2: GoRetroid Reveals Specs, Models, and Colorways for New Handheld

GoRetroid has officially unveiled the Retroid Pocket Flip 2, the latest iteration in its lineup of retro-inspired handheld gaming devices.

Making a splash on February 26, 2025, the company showcased the device’s technical specifications and vibrant color options via its official Twitter/X account, signaling continued commitment to the handheld gaming community and the growing retro-gaming market. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 will be released in two hardware models and four distinct colorways, each designed to appeal to fans of classic gaming hardware.

The available finishes include Ice Blue, Black, GC—a clear homage to the iconic Nintendo GameCube design—and 16-Bit US, reminiscent of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System’s American aesthetic.

With these nods to legendary Nintendo consoles, GoRetroid aims to cater both to collectors and players who appreciate gaming history. Under the hood, GoRetroid is offering a choice between two system-on-chips (SoCs) for the new Flip 2.

The first model features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, previously seen in the Retroid Pocket Mini and Retroid Pocket 5, promising swift performance across a wide range of retro and modern Android games.

The alternative model utilizes the MediaTek D1100 SoC, last seen powering the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro.

For reference, the original Retroid Pocket Flip was equipped with a Unisoc Tiger T618 processor, marking a notable upgrade in the Flip 2’s capabilities. Both versions of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 share the same 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display with 500 nits of brightness, ensuring a vivid and crisp viewing experience.

They each come with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage, providing ample capacity for large game libraries and efficient multitasking.

The devices are set to run on Android 13, offering users access to a vast app ecosystem and gaming emulation possibilities. While both hardware models are largely similar, GoRetroid notes that the Snapdragon model will support faster charging compared to its MediaTek counterpart.

Conversely, the MediaTek D1100 model features support for a newer version of Bluetooth, enhancing connectivity options for modern controllers and accessories. In terms of physical design, the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 refines its predecessor’s layout.

The new version replaces the original’s clickable hall-effect sliders with updated, recessed joysticks, now positioned above the D-pad and action buttons for improved ergonomics.

GoRetroid has adjusted the placement of start, select, and power buttons, introducing a dedicated home button for user convenience.

Additionally, the device’s speakers have been relocated to the top, enhancing audio clarity. GoRetroid has announced that pricing details and pre-order dates for the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 will be revealed soon.

Early indications from the company suggest a Spring 2025 launch window.

With its retro-inspired colorways, upgraded internals, and user-focused refinements, the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is poised to become a top contender in the booming portable retro gaming market.
