Nintendo confirmed during a Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Direct presentation that the next mainline Fire Emblem title will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 17.

The announcement, published by Nintendo of America, outlined the game's setting, core mechanics and the four distinct protagonist paths players can follow.

Setting and premise

Fortune’s Weave is set in the prosperous Dagdan Empire, centered on the capital city of Dagsion and the recurring tournament known as the Heroic Games.

The Direct described a world where the winner of the Heroic Games is granted a single wish by the emperor, and where a revived demon god named Balor threatens to annihilate the Empire five years after a pivotal tournament.

The progenitor god Sothis charges the player’s character with saving the world, and a central mechanic allows the player to rewind time using the goddess Fortuna’s powers to revisit the four Heroes and alter the course of events.

Playable protagonists and narrative structure

Players choose from four Heroes — Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda — each with their own Heroic Games storyline.

Cai is introduced as a fighter from the village of Ribeira determined to rescue his imprisoned father; Dietrich arrives after surviving a monstrous attack and seeks combat and camaraderie; Theodora is a veteran leader from Saramis aiming to restore divine honor; and Leda, a privileged musician, pursues vengeance for her father’s murder.

The Direct explained that progress is saved separately for each Heroic path and that players can travel back in time from each Hero’s campaign to pursue alternate routes.

Core gameplay systems

The Direct detailed Dagsion as a hub where players prepare between matches, with facilities such as an Arena, Shopping Arcade, Temple Row, Certification Exams and Inns.

Outside the city, a world map enables Skirmish battles, town visits and dungeon delving for materials.

Matches follow Fire Emblem’s turn-based tactical structure with visible movement and attack ranges; positioning, terrain and adjacent ally buffs remain important strategic elements.

Classes, combat and unique mechanics

The game features multiple class tiers (Beginner, Specialty and Advanced) with diverse movement and weapon profiles.

Combat includes traditional weapon types and unique attacks, Combat Arts that consume weapon durability, and powerful Blaze Arts that trade health for decisive effects.

The Direct emphasized Fortuna’s Blessing as a signature mechanic, permitting players to rewind to earlier points in battle after each move to rethink tactics.

Release and platform

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is confirmed as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and will be available on Sept. 17.

Nintendo presented this information during a dedicated Direct; further details, including pricing and eShop availability, are expected to follow in Nintendo’s official channels.
