Description

In the wake of a major Nintendo Direct presentation, Electronic Arts (EA) has made headlines of its own, confirming that the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Instead, the publisher's focus for this latest installment in the acclaimed first-person shooter franchise is firmly set on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Speaking with Eurogamer, EA’s Executive Vice President and head of Battlefield Studios, Vince Zampella, shed light on the company’s platform strategy for Battlefield 6.

Zampella explained, "Right now, we do not have plans to bring Battlefield 6 to Nintendo Switch 2.

Our development efforts are dedicated to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, where we’ve traditionally seen the strongest engagement from our core Battlefield community." When asked about the exclusion of Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, Zampella elaborated that the existing Battlefield fanbase is most concentrated on Sony, Microsoft, and PC platforms.

However, he emphasized his personal appreciation for Nintendo hardware, stating that he is an enthusiastic Nintendo Switch fan himself.

Despite this, the decision to limit Battlefield 6’s release reflects a strategic focus on established audiences for the series. While this update may disappoint some Nintendo fans, it does signal a broader shift in EA’s support for the Switch ecosystem.

Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which did not receive entries from high-profile EA series like Madden, Madden NFL 26 has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2.

EA has also either released or announced several titles for the Nintendo platform in recent months, including Split Fiction, EA Sports FC 26, the popular battle royale game Apex Legends, and Plants vs.

Zombies Replanted. EA's long-standing partnership with Nintendo has strengthened with the success of the Nintendo Switch, which launched in 2017 and has sold over 125 million units worldwide as of early 2024.

The company’s renewed investment in first-party releases like Madden and EA Sports FC on Nintendo consoles underscores this trend, even if some flagship titles like Battlefield 6 remain absent for the time being. As anticipation continues to mount for the Nintendo Switch 2’s full unveiling and line-up, EA’s platform decisions remain closely watched by industry observers and fans alike.

While Battlefield 6 will not be part of Nintendo’s next-generation offerings, the growing roster of EA titles on Switch hardware highlights a positive trajectory for the publisher's relationship with Nintendo players.
