Description

The latest UK physical games chart reveals a striking change in the gaming sales landscape, as Nintendo's stronghold on the top positions loosens for the first time in several months.

EA's highly anticipated shooter, Battlefield 6, debuted with impressive sales, seizing the number one spot in its launch week and signaling a notable shift in consumer attention toward major multiplatform titles. Published by Electronic Arts and developed by DICE, Battlefield 6 made an impactful entrance, outpacing established chart leaders and driving significant sales on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Last week's chart-topper, Ghost of Yotei, now occupies third place, while EA Sports FC 26, another EA flagship, maintains a secure hold on the second position thanks to steady demand across platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and its successor, Switch 2. Nintendo, a mainstay in the UK’s physical games rankings, found its best-performing title this week, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, settling at fifth place.

The compilation, which brings the Galaxy series to both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, saw its ranking slip despite consistently strong franchise affinity among players.

Just ahead of it is Mario Kart World, yet another testament to the enduring popularity of Mario-themed racers. In what marks another highlight for the week, the atmospheric platformer Little Nightmares III had a promising chart debut, entering in sixth place.

According to GfK data, 17% of Little Nightmares III’s physical sales came from the original Nintendo Switch platform, and a further 16% from Switch 2, underscoring the ongoing appetite for third-party releases on Nintendo hardware even as first-party titles recede from the sales spotlight. Another notable chart entry is Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, now at 29th position.

Switch users account for 61% of the title’s physical sales this week, outpacing PlayStation 5 by a significant margin and demonstrating the tactical RPG genre's persistent appeal among the Nintendo audience. The rest of the top 40 features mainstays such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Just Dance 2025 Edition, all of which underscore Nintendo’s continued presence, even if not on the podium.

Platform data from this week also highlights the diversification of the market, with multi-platform releases increasingly commanding larger shares of physical sales across the UK.

Among these, legendary franchise entries like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom remain in the rankings at number 40, split nearly evenly between Switch and Switch 2 sales. This week’s results, compiled by industry-tracking group GfK, reflect the dynamic nature of the UK retail games sector.

While Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 continue to serve as vital platforms for established and new titles, the arrival of blockbuster third-party games such as Battlefield 6 is creating fresh competition for podium positions.

As physical sales trends evolve, developers and publishers are responding by ensuring wide platform availability and localized releases.
