Square Enix is set to delight classic RPG fans with the upcoming release of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, a highly anticipated title reimagining the legendary 8-bit adventures for modern platforms.

In their latest statement, Square Enix clarified that main development of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is now finished, and the title is entering the production phase.

While the 'gone gold' status signals that the game is ready for mass manufacturing and digital distribution, there will still be opportunities for final adjustments and post-launch content through updates and downloadable content (DLC).

For fans eagerly awaiting updates, the company’s message highlighted that there are ''just two months to go'' until launch, reaffirming there are no delays in the schedule. When Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake debuts for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 30, 2025, there are a few important details buyers should know.

Each Nintendo platform—Switch or Switch 2—will require a separate purchase, as Square Enix has confirmed that there is currently no upgrade path between versions.

In addition, DLC codes for one version cannot be redeemed on the other, ensuring that content is exclusive to the purchased platform.

These distinctions affect both retail and eShop editions, so players are encouraged to select their preferred Nintendo system for their journey through these beloved RPG classics.
