Nintendo has launched a limited-time Super Mario Bros. collaboration event in Donkey Kong Bananza for Nintendo Switch 2. The crossover is available to players who have completed the main game and purchased the paid DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC. The publisher released an event trailer and a set of screenshots to accompany the announcement.
The themed event runs across four distinct waves. According to Nintendo’s published schedule, the waves are:
- Wave 1: Now until Tuesday 30 June 2026 (08:59 UK time)
- Wave 2: Tuesday 14 July 2026 (09:00 UK time) to Tuesday 21 July 2026 (08:59 UK time)
- Wave 3: Tuesday 4 August 2026 (09:00 UK time) to Tuesday 11 August 2026 (08:59 UK time)
- Wave 4: Tuesday 25 August 2026 (09:00 UK time) to Tuesday 1 September 2026 (08:59 UK time)
Nintendo explained the content of the collaboration in straightforward terms. The company said the DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC will host a limited-time Super Mario Bros. crossover that adds Mario- and Luigi-inspired outfits for Donkey Kong and Pauline. The update also introduces classic Mario items such as Coins, Super Mushrooms, and Question Blocks to Emerald Rush stages, offering a visual and mechanical mash-up that runs only during the listed waves.
Players must own Donkey Kong Bananza and the DK Island & Emerald Rush paid DLC to access the new cosmetic items and in-stage Mario-themed elements. Donkey Kong Bananza is available now at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide.
This event underscores Nintendo’s continued use of limited-time collaborations to refresh post-launch DLC content and keep multiplayer and single-player modes active across a title’s lifespan. The announcement follows Nintendo’s typical pattern of timed events tied to downloadable expansions and aligns with promotional strategies used across the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystems.
