Capcom has marked the second anniversary of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak by releasing new celebratory artwork and thanking the game's community.

Sunbreak, the major expansion for Monster Hunter Rise, launched on June 30, 2022 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

The base game, Monster Hunter Rise, originally released for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021 and later arrived on PC on January 12, 2022; both titles remain available through the Nintendo eShop and Steam storefront.

The announcement arrived on June 30, 2024 through Capcom's official Monster Hunter X account (formerly Twitter), accompanied by artwork commemorating Sunbreak’s anniversary.

Yoshitake Suzuki, director of Sunbreak, posted to thank fans for their continued support and emphasized the team's appreciation for the player community.

In his message, Suzuki expressed gratitude for players who have engaged with the expansion and said the development team hopes players continue to enjoy the Monster Hunter series.

Sunbreak expanded Monster Hunter Rise with substantial endgame content, including the introduction of Master Rank and a new flagship elder dragon, Malzeno, alongside additional locales and monsters.

The expansion represented Capcom's ongoing support strategy for Rise, delivering new quests and challenges designed for experienced hunters while keeping the core gameplay loop familiar for series fans.

Sunbreak’s release on June 30, 2022 allowed players on Nintendo Switch and PC to access that expanded content simultaneously.

For players and industry observers, Capcom’s post reflects a continued focus on long-term engagement for major releases.

The Monster Hunter franchise has a long history of post-launch support, and Sunbreak is an example of that model: a paid expansion that built on Rise’s foundation to extend its lifecycle across platforms including the Nintendo Switch and Steam.

As Sunbreak reaches its second year, the commemorative artwork and Suzuki’s public thanks underscore the importance of community engagement in the Monster Hunter ecosystem.

Players interested in revisiting Sunbreak can find Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion on the Nintendo eShop for Switch owners and on Steam for PC players.
