Description

Pokémon TCG fans are in for a treat this summer as The Pokémon Company celebrates the 15th anniversary of Pokémon Black and White with a special themed Trading Card Game set.

The upcoming expansion, titled 'Black Bolt' and 'White Flare,' pays homage to the beloved Nintendo DS games by featuring every Pokémon from the Unova region—an impressive lineup of 156 species.

Set for release in Japan on June 6, 2024, the 'Black Bolt' and 'White Flare' sets will introduce an exciting new element to the Pokémon Trading Card Game: the 'BWR' rarity, or 'Black White Rare.' This marks the highest tier of card rarity ever released in the 15-year history of Pokémon TCG's Black and White era.

Fans and collectors alike can look forward to unique, single-color card designs centered around legendary Unova Pokémon, including Reshiram, Zekrom, and Victini. Speaking about the set's launch, representatives from The Pokémon Company emphasized the nostalgic significance of this anniversary edition and the innovation behind the new rarity tier.

These 'Black, White, and Red' cards, which feature striking minimalist artwork, are poised to be highly coveted haul for fans and collectors.

As of now, the three legendary Pokémon mentioned are the first to receive the BWR treatment, but there is potential for additional Generation V legends to follow. Following its Japanese debut, the 'Black Bolt' and 'White Flare' expansion is confirmed to launch in Western markets approximately one month later, though the name may vary depending on localization.

As always, The Pokémon Company recommends keeping a close eye on official channels for the finalized Western release date and additional details. Recent Pokémon TCG expansions, such as Destined Rivals and Prismatic Evolutions, have experienced high demand leading to long queues and rapid stock shortages at launch, with resale markets seeing substantial price hikes.

While The Pokémon Company has previously responded by increasing supply, achieving stable distribution has proven challenging, especially when new chase cards are introduced.

Whether the introduction of the BWR rarity will result in similar demand remains to be seen. This anniversary set underscores The Pokémon Company’s commitment to innovation and engaging collector communities worldwide, while spotlighting the enduring popularity of the Unova region and Pokémon Black and White.

TCG collectors and Nintendo Switch fans can look forward to further updates, including availability on the eShop and game stores, ensuring no one misses the chance to capture these new rarities.
