The successor to the compact Android-based AYANEO Pocket Micro line has been promoted via the companys social channels with specific hardware cues, including control layout, battery size, and connectivity improvements that aim to position the device as a stronger option in the retro handheld market.
The Pocket Micro family began with the 2024 AYANEO Pocket Micro and later expanded with the Pocket Micro Classic revision.
What AYANEO has confirmed
In a series of social media posts, AYANEO confirmed the Pocket Micro 2 will ship with dual joysticks.
The company said it will use recessed TMR dual joysticks rather than the protruding sticks found on the original Micro.
AYANEO also described a split large-size shoulder button layout intended to improve comfort and reduce accidental presses.
Additional hardware details released by the company include an upgraded full-featured USB Type-C port, a new 3.5mm headphone jack, and a built-in microphone.
Battery capacity was specified at 3950mAh, which AYANEO notes is roughly 52 percent larger than the previous generation's 2600mAh cell.
Lineage and reception
The original AYANEO Pocket Micro launched in 2024 as an Android-based handheld with a retro aesthetic reminiscent of earlier small-form-factor devices.
In his review for Time Extension, Damien McFerran found the device capable of running titles up through the Sega Dreamcast era and praised its 3.5-inch IPS screen for making Game Boy Advance games particularly enjoyable.
McFerran awarded the original Pocket Micro an 8 out of 10, calling it one of the most compact and aesthetically appealing attempts to fuse Android with a retro gaming focus.
AYANEO released a revised Pocket Micro Classic a year later that removed sticks and reduced price, and both the original Pocket Micro and the Classic have since been discontinued to make way for this next-generation model.
What remains to be shown
AYANEOs teases so far provide concrete hardware claims but do not include official product images or full technical specifications.
The company has positioned the device as a Gen 2 powerhouse and framed the updates as meaningful ergonomic and performance improvements.
The firm will reveal the full details during the June 26, 2026 unveiling.
