AYANEO Pocket DS: The World’s First Flip Dual-Screen Android Handheld Debuts at ChinaJoy 2025

AYANEO, a company well-known in the gaming hardware community for its innovative portable gaming devices, has announced the upcoming launch of the AYANEO Pocket DS—heralded as the "world's first flip dual-screen Android handheld." The device’s public debut is scheduled for ChinaJoy 2025, one of Asia's largest and most influential gaming expos, which takes place from August 1st to August 4th at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.

The Pocket DS will be showcased at the Qualcomm Snapdragon booth, highlighting the collaboration between AYANEO and Qualcomm. The reveal took place during a livestream on AYANEO's official YouTube channel, signaling the company's commitment to advancing handheld gaming technology.

The Pocket DS follows closely on the heels of the Windows-based Flip 1S DS, which launched earlier this month.

This strategic release comes amid a surge of interest in dual-screen portable devices, as manufacturers race to bring innovative form factors to market. Over the past year, the handheld landscape has expanded rapidly.

Competing devices like OneXPlayer’s OneXSugar—a rotatable Android system that converts from single- to dual-screen mode—have entered the market, while Retroid has catered to enthusiasts with a dual-screen add-on compatible with models including the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, Retroid Pocket Mini, and Retroid Pocket 5.

These developments underscore a growing demand for dual-screen gaming, reminiscent of the popular Nintendo DS era. According to slides shared during AYANEO’s announcement, the Pocket DS has been in development for approximately a year and is designed specifically for 'retro dual-screen enthusiasts and geek gamers.' Qualcomm is a key partner on the project, likely providing advanced Snapdragon chipsets to power the device’s Android OS.

AYANEO CEO Arthur Zhang unveiled a prototype during the livestream, confirming that mass production is already underway, although no official release date or pricing information was provided. AYANEO's announcement also included previews of other upcoming products slated for release by 2026.

These include the Game Boy-inspired AYANEO Pocket Vert and the Pocket Fit—a more affordable option under AYANEO’s new sub-brand, KONKR.
