Apex Legends Support Ending on Nintendo Switch: EA and Respawn Announce Final Update Before Switch 2 Transition

EA and Respawn Entertainment have officially announced the end of support for Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch platform, marking a significant transition in the popular battle royale’s presence on Nintendo hardware.

First released for the Nintendo Switch in March 2021, Apex Legends has allowed millions of Nintendo fans to drop into the action and compete alongside players on other consoles and PC.

However, with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, Electronic Arts and Respawn are shifting their focus exclusively to the new system, ensuring that Apex Legends remains current with the latest hardware advancements. In an official statement, the developers confirmed that "Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch.

Starting August 4, 2026, with the launch of Season 30, the game will no longer be playable on the original Nintendo Switch system." Players can continue to participate in matches, earn rewards, and enjoy all available features on Nintendo Switch through August 4, 2026.

After this date, support for the title on the first Nintendo Switch will officially come to an end. Additionally, from August 4, 2026 onward, in-game premium currency (Apex Coins) will no longer be available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Existing digital balances, however, can still be used before that deadline.

Players with Apex Coins and other in-game purchases linked to their EA accounts will be able to transfer their progress and rewards seamlessly to Nintendo Switch 2, maintaining all cosmetics, currencies, and achievements accumulated on the previous console.

EA and Respawn emphasize that "all player progress, purchases, and earnings are linked to their individual EA accounts, and everything earned or purchased—including Apex Coins and cosmetics—will carry over to the Nintendo Switch 2, even if the new console is purchased after August 4, 2026." It is important to note that this transition only applies to the original Nintendo Switch system.

All future Apex Legends seasons and updates will be developed and deployed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, promising enhanced performance and a continued competitive experience.

Players in certain regions should also be aware that local laws may require the use of digital currency within 180 days of purchase. The Switch version of Apex Legends marked a milestone for Respawn Entertainment and EA, expanding the game’s accessibility to hundreds of thousands of portable gamers.

As EA turns its focus to supporting Nintendo Switch 2, the company remains committed to delivering cutting-edge content and a seamless transition for its Apex Legends community.

For current Switch players, there is still ample time to enjoy the game, finalize purchases, and prepare for the next era of Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch 2.
