Apex Legends Ending Support on Nintendo Switch After Season 29: What Players Need to Know

Apex Legends, the massively popular battle royale developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA), has enjoyed a significant presence on the Nintendo Switch platform since its launch in June 2020.

Over the years, the game has brought fast-paced, squad-based action to fans on Nintendo's innovative hybrid console, expanding the Apex Legends community and providing cross-platform excitement.

However, EA recently announced that Apex Legends’ journey on the Nintendo Switch will be concluding with the end of Season 29, making way for future support exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. According to an official statement published on EA’s website, Apex Legends will cease to be playable on the original Nintendo Switch system starting August 4, 2026, coinciding with the launch of Season 30.

Until then, Nintendo Switch players can continue to participate in matches, earn rewards, and enjoy all available game features as usual. Beginning on the cutoff date—August 4, 2026—purchasing in-game premium currency (including Apex Coins) on the Nintendo Switch eShop will no longer be possible.

Importantly, any existing in-game currency balances can be used right up to that date.

EA further clarified that all progress, unlocked rewards, purchases, and account data are linked to each player’s EA account.

As a result, this data—including Apex Coins and cosmetic items—will seamlessly transfer to the Nintendo Switch 2 for players who choose to upgrade, even after the August 2026 deadline.

This ensures ongoing access to earned content as long as players maintain the same EA account, supporting continuity as the platform transitions to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware. EA’s statement also noted a legal caveat: due to certain regional laws, digital currency may need to be used within 180 days of purchase, so players should keep this in mind when planning their in-game spending toward the end of service.

Notably, these changes affect only the original Nintendo Switch and not the Nintendo Switch 2, where Apex Legends will continue to be supported. This development marks the end of a six-year tenure for Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch, a period during which the game helped diversify the console’s competitive gaming lineup while expanding its esports reach.

As the Nintendo Switch 2’s release approaches, Apex Legends players are encouraged to prepare for the migration to ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted access to all their achievements and content. Nintendo Switch owners will be able to enjoy Apex Legends until August 4, 2026.

Beyond that, continued play will require moving to the new Nintendo Switch 2 platform. For ongoing updates, players should refer to EA’s official communications and the Apex Legends help pages as the service wind-down date approaches.
