Description

In a major move for Nintendo fans and video game music enthusiasts, the Super Mario Galaxy 2 soundtrack has been officially added to the Nintendo Music streaming service, enriching the platform’s growing catalog.

This update arrives as Nintendo readies the highly anticipated launch of Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 for Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Switch 2, offering fans new and old a fresh opportunity to experience these acclaimed titles. Super Mario Galaxy 2, developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and released on May 23, 2010, for the Wii, is widely hailed as one of the greatest video games of all time.

Originally conceived as an expanded update to its 2007 predecessor—tentatively titled “Super Mario Galaxy More”—the development team’s ambition led Nintendo to ultimately deliver a full-fledged sequel.

Praised for its inventive level design, tight gameplay, and remarkable soundtrack composed by Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo, Super Mario Galaxy 2 built on the legacy of the original with even more imaginative worlds and mechanics. According to Nintendo, the Super Mario Galaxy 2 soundtrack now available on Nintendo Music boasts a running time of two hours and nine minutes and includes a total of 70 tracks, spanning memorable themes like “Sky Station Galaxy,” “Yoshi Star Galaxy,” “Bowser’s Galaxy Generator,” and the iconic credits music.

This release follows a series of expansions for Nintendo Music, which recently added tracks from Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Looking ahead, Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 2, 2025.

Each title will be available individually for $39.99 USD or as a bundle for $69.99.

These updated ports will benefit from modern enhancements, including 1080p resolution, new chapters to Rosalina’s Storybook, and an improved interface designed for the Switch hardware.

Nintendo has announced that Switch 2 users who purchase the games will receive a free update supporting 4K resolution and mouse controls, further advancing the series’ accessibility. The addition of Super Mario Galaxy’s soundtracks to Nintendo Music underscores the company’s recognition of the franchise’s lasting impact, particularly the orchestral scores that have become fan favorites.

With the arrival of Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 on Switch platforms, and the dedication to updating these classics with contemporary features, Nintendo continues to celebrate its rich history while looking to the future of gaming on both current and next-generation hardware. For fans eager to revisit Mario’s cosmic adventures or newcomers discovering the series for the first time, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year.

Stay tuned to official Nintendo Direct streams and the Nintendo eShop for ongoing updates and release details.
