The Idolmaster SP Receives Full English Fan Translation Patch for PSP This Winter

Bandai Namco’s The Idolmaster SP, a beloved 2009 idol simulation and rhythm game for the PlayStation Portable (PSP), is set to reach an even wider audience this winter thanks to a comprehensive fan-led English translation patch.

The translation, regarded as a significant milestone for English-speaking fans, enables players to fully experience one of the most influential titles in the Idolmaster series for the very first time in English.

The Idolmaster SP originally comprised three separate releases on the PSP—Perfect Sun, Missing Moon, and Wandering Star—each featuring its own unique set of idols and storylines.

While earlier efforts such as TLWiki’s partial translations, published between 2009 and 2014, made a selection of the content accessible, the new patch is the first to provide an end-to-end English experience across all versions. Spearheaded by a dedicated fan team including prominent contributors like BonillaP and Soutaisei/相対性, the project aims to give a faithful and complete rendition of the game for international audiences.

In an update shared via the team’s official project website, the translators confirmed that previously untranslated character arcs—including Wandering Star’s Ami & Mami Futami and Missing Moon’s Azusa and Ritsuko—will now receive complete dialogue translations.

Beyond the core story content, the patch also goes further by localizing in-game emails from reporters, stylists, and fans, as well as other interactive elements that were not included in previous translation efforts.

This unprecedented level of detail ensures that fans will receive the most authentic Idolmaster SP experience possible outside of Japan. The eagerly anticipated patch is slated for release this winter and will be available to download from the project’s website, where regular progress updates and additional information can also be found.

For those eager to see the translation in action, the development team has published a trailer highlighting the newly localized content, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect from the finished product. The Idolmaster SP continues to hold a unique place in Bandai Namco’s extensive library and Japanese pop culture.

With this new English patch, the PSP classic is set to gain a fresh wave of international appreciation, underlining the continued passion and dedication of the Idolmaster fan community.
