The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Yoshi Takes Center Stage in New 'Chomps Back' Teaser

Illumination has unveiled a brand new 'Yoshi Chomps Back' clip for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, further building excitement for the highly anticipated animated film based on the beloved Nintendo franchise.

The animation studio continues its promotional campaign by highlighting one of the series’ most iconic characters, giving fans a fresh glimpse into the action-packed adventure. The 30-second preview, which debuted alongside the official announcements in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, mirrors the vibrant scenes from the initial trailer.

The highlight comes in the closing moments, where Yoshi leaps into action, heroically stopping a rampaging Chain Chomp in trademark fashion—by catching it with his long, sticky tongue and swallowing it whole.

This playful moment captures the whimsy and charm that fans have come to expect from Nintendo's marquee series, now translated to the big screen in Illumination’s vibrant animation style. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features a star-studded ensemble, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Rosalina.

The voice cast reflects Nintendo’s commitment to bringing authenticity and energy to its cinematic universe. In a recent presentation aired during The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, Illumination's CEO Chris Meledandri revealed that animation work had officially concluded and the project has transitioned into the post-production phase.

Meledandri elaborated, stating, "Our teams are now focused on finalizing sound design and composing the music that will carry this adventure across the galaxy." He confirmed that directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are collaborating closely with composer Brian Tyler, as well as Nintendo and experts at Skywalker Sound, to shape the film's final audio experience. "Brian Tyler is weaving in themes from the Super Mario Galaxy games for the original score, recorded with a 70-piece orchestra," Meledandri said.

He expressed enthusiasm for this stage of development, noting, "It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the visual and sonic elements come together.

We’re excited to share the finished film with the world in April." The release schedule for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has now been officially set.

The film will debut in theaters in the United States and multiple global markets on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Japanese audiences can look forward to its release on April 24, 2026, with further premieres planned throughout various territories that same month. With Illumination expanding its partnership with Nintendo, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie poised for worldwide release across both major and select regions, anticipation among fans and industry insiders continues to rise.

The combination of innovative animation, a celebrated cast, and collaboration with legendary composers and sound designers is setting the stage for one of the most anticipated animated releases—and a significant milestone for both Nintendo’s cinematic ambitions and the broader video game industry.
