Playtonic Games has officially announced the release date for Yooka-Replaylee, a fully remade and enhanced version of the acclaimed 3D platforming collectathon Yooka-Laylee.
The upgraded title is scheduled for launch on October 9, 2025, and will be available on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and other major console platforms.
Significantly, Nintendo Switch 2 owners will be able to purchase a complete physical edition with the entire game on cartridge, marking a notable commitment to physical media alongside digital distribution on eShop and other storefronts.
Yooka-Replaylee serves as the definitive edition of Yooka-Laylee, a fan-favorite indie platformer originally developed by Playtonic Games, a studio founded by key creative minds behind legendary franchises like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country.
This remake brings a host of modern enhancements—including thoroughly revamped visuals, refreshed animations, and freshly orchestrated music—delivering an even more immersive and polished gameplay experience for veterans and newcomers alike.
In a recent statement, Playtonic Games emphasized that the narrative is now retold from the perspectives of the beloved protagonists Yooka and Laylee, featuring new story sequences and plot developments integrated throughout the campaign.
The studio highlights the inclusion of an expanded world map, an intuitive collectibles tracker, and the introduction of a new guiding character known as (book)Mark, who will aid in navigation and serve as a handy warp point.
One of the standout new features is the overhaul of Rextro’s Arcade segment.
Instead of classic minigames, players can now tackle a suite of original isometric platforming challenges as Rextro the dinosaur, earning collectibles that further enrich the gameplay loop.
Yooka-Replaylee also introduces a new primary currency to collect, scattered across the Hivory Towers hub, which players can spend on Vendi—the in-game sentient vending machine—offering novel items and fashion-forward customization options for the buddy duo.
Gameplay refinement is at the core of this remake.
Now, players will have immediate access to Yooka and Laylee’s full arsenal of moves from the beginning, enabling smoother, more dynamic movement throughout expansive open worlds.
Revamped camera systems and responsive controls directly address community feedback from the original release, promising a ‘modern, snappier’ experience that feels right at home on Nintendo Switch 2 and current-generation consoles.
Longtime fans will also appreciate the return of composers Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country), whose iconic work has been reimagined as a sweeping orchestral soundtrack for this release, further elevating the audio-visual experience.
Yooka-Replaylee’s arrival represents a new benchmark for indie platforming remakes, merging nostalgic charm with contemporary game design.
Stay tuned to Nintendo Directs and official Playtonic channels for further updates leading up to the October 9, 2025 release.
For Nintendo Switch 2 players, the physical edition is poised to be a collector’s item, while the eShop and other digital platforms will ensure accessibility for fans worldwide.
