ReVamp: Digital Sun Games Unveils Castle-Defense Roguelite Where You Play as Dracula

Digital Sun Games, renowned for acclaimed indie hits such as Moonlighter and The Mageseeker, has announced its latest project: ReVamp.

Set to launch on PC and consoles including Nintendo Switch, ReVamp puts players in the iconic role of Dracula, defending his gothic castle from relentless waves of heroic invaders.

The announcement arrives as fans celebrate a resurgence of the vampire genre, with Castlevania remaining top-of-mind following recent updates by Konami. Inspired by classic genre-inverting games like Dungeon Keeper, ReVamp flips the usual script by placing you in the shoes—or rather, the cape—of the ultimate villain.

Players will be tasked with building and fortifying their own sprawling fortress room by room, setting traps and organizing defenses against persistent adventurers intent on laying waste to Dracula’s domain.

This innovative structure fuses the strategic depth of castle-defense roguelites with hands-on, action-driven combat. Director Eric Benavente offered his perspective on the project, summarizing ReVamp as "essentially a Castlevania experience in reverse." Rather than battling through Dracula’s lair as a hero, the player embodies Dracula, using his legendary powers to directly confront and devastate the invading forces.

According to the Steam listing, the narrative centers on Dracula being cursed by Achlys, goddess of the night, to eternally defend his throne from nightly human assaults.

Each siege forms a new chapter of ceaseless conflict, blending thematic storytelling with replayable gameplay. Benavente elaborates that ReVamp’s unique twist is allowing players to actively intervene in castle defense: "You’re not a distant observer.

You get to walk the haunted halls, defeat intruders with Dracula’s signature abilities, and turn the tide when your castle is under threat." This design not only pays tribute to the dark mythos of Dracula but also leverages the strategic systems Digital Sun is known for. While the concept of playing as Dracula has precedent—in 2014’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, for example—ReVamp distinguishes itself by blending the DNA of beloved franchises with modern roguelite mechanics.

This approach is likely to resonate with both fans of classic Castlevania titles and newcomers seeking a fresh gameplay experience. The announcement of ReVamp adds to a vibrant year for Castlevania enthusiasts.

Konami recently revealed Belmont’s Curse, a new entry in the legendary series, driving further interest in gothic action games on platforms like the Nintendo Switch and Steam. As Digital Sun Games prepares for ReVamp’s full reveal and release on PC and Nintendo Switch, the developer builds on a legacy of delivering engaging, genre-defying titles.

Fans can wishlist the game and follow updates via eShop and digital storefronts, anticipating more details about Dracula’s nightmarish challenge in the months ahead.
