Description

With Nintendo’s official Switch 2 announcement making headlines last week, support for the next-generation hybrid console is already taking shape among some of the industry's most influential players.

One of the most significant endorsements comes from Microsoft, as Xbox head Phil Spencer has publicly committed to bringing more Xbox titles to Nintendo’s upcoming system. In a recent appearance on the Gamertag Radio podcast, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, discussed the company's ongoing strategy to extend the reach of the Xbox software library.

Spencer underscored that Microsoft is eager to support Nintendo, signaling an intent to deliver a broader array of Xbox-published games across multiple gaming platforms.

He explained, “Our goal is to allow as many people as possible to experience what Xbox has to offer, and that means expanding the availability of our titles beyond just PlayStation.

We value our collaboration with Nintendo and remain devoted to strengthening that relationship, as well as our partnerships with platforms like Valve's Steam.

This is only the beginning; we intend to build upon this momentum in the future.” The relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo, marked by recent collaborative efforts, appears set to deepen with the launch of the Switch 2.

Spencer noted that he had reached out to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa following the Switch 2’s unveiling, extending congratulations and personally praising the system’s larger screen.

He remarked that the upgrade was especially appealing, referencing it as a welcome improvement for long-time gamers. Spencer took the opportunity to commend Nintendo’s creative direction and continued leadership in the games industry.

“Nintendo’s ability to innovate and adapt has consistently led to groundbreaking successes.

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone willing to doubt their achievements—the Nintendo Switch has been a phenomenal hit, and I have every confidence that the Switch 2 will build upon that legacy,” he stated. While Microsoft has not formally announced specific Xbox games slated for the Switch 2 launch, there is historical precedent for significant collaborations.

Following a deal last year, the Call of Duty franchise is set to return to Nintendo platforms, marking a milestone in platform cooperation.

Furthermore, recent reports suggest that games like Diablo could soon appear on the new Nintendo hardware, in line with Microsoft’s recent approach to multi-platform releases.

Notably, 2023 saw Xbox titles such as Grounded and Sea of Thieves become available on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation systems, reflecting Microsoft's proactive stance toward cross-platform availability. As the Nintendo Switch 2 prepares to launch, industry watchers and fans alike are anticipating an expanded library of experiences.

Microsoft's commitment, as articulated by Phil Spencer, signals an era where collaboration across traditional platform lines may become the norm, allowing players more freedom than ever before.
