ZUIKI, a notable name in the retro gaming scene, has officially launched an international crowdfunding campaign for its X68000 Z series of micro-consoles, bringing the classic Japanese computing experience to a wider global audience.
Building on the legacy of the original SHARP X68000 home computer—a system known for its significant influence on Japan’s 1980s and 1990s PC gaming culture—ZUIKI’s new initiative aims to satisfy enthusiasts and collectors with modern recreations featuring updated hardware and authentic design.
The campaign, now live on IndieGoGo, offers fans outside Japan access to multiple variants of the X68000 Z lineup.
The base model, the X68000 Z SUPER, is priced at £696 (approximately $950 / 136,000 Yen), while the more advanced X68000 Z XVI retails for £753 (about $1,020 / 147,000 Yen).
For dedicated enthusiasts, a bundle package featuring both machines is available for £1,372 ($1,860 / 268,000 Yen).
Each package includes not only the micro-console itself but also a faithfully reproduced keyboard and mouse, mirroring the iconic look and feel of the original Sharp X68000 desktop setup.
ZUIKI emphasizes that international backers will be able to enjoy a comprehensive retro computing experience with minimal setup, requiring only an HDMI-equipped display to get started.
In a statement on the IndieGoGo campaign page, ZUIKI highlighted: “For the first time, we are offering the X68000 Z SUPER and Z XVI as a complete set.
The kits shipped to backers include the computer, keyboard, and mouse—carefully designed to match the classic X68000, delivering a fully authentic experience for our global supporters.”
This global crowdfunding effort follows earlier updates from ZUIKI about international interest and accessibility.
In May 2025, ZUIKI launched an English-language website to provide seamless updates and support to non-Japanese fans.
“We are pleased to announce our dedicated site for fans outside of Japan, where visitors can register their interest and receive news as soon as availability is confirmed,” the company stated.
Prospective buyers can register their email addresses on this site to receive updates on future sales and distribution methods as the campaign progresses.
The X68000 Z Super features the same system-on-chip (SoC) and memory specifications as the original X68000 Z but stands out with a larger chassis and additional connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, SCSI, MIDI, and D-Sub ports.
Notably, it also supports a ‘Nano-ITX’ motherboard, allowing users to dual-boot with Windows.
The X68000 Z XVI builds on these features, upgrading the SoC and increasing onboard memory for an enhanced user experience.
Both models previously opened for pre-orders in Japan via the Kibidango crowdfunding platform earlier this year, where reception from the domestic market was overwhelmingly positive.
Now, with the international crowdfunding initiative, ZUIKI is expanding its reach to cater to a passionate global fanbase eager for immersive retro gaming and computing experiences.
The X68000 Z series stands as a compelling tribute to Sharp’s influential desktop, offering international fans the chance to own a piece of Japanese computing history.
Interested users are encouraged to visit the official English site for registration and to follow the IndieGoGo campaign for updates, availability, and technical details.
