Description

Nihon Falcom’s acclaimed Ys series is set for a new chapter as BEEP, a respected Japanese publisher and retailer, officially announced the Ys Legacy Collection ~Ys I&II&III For X68000 Z.

This highly anticipated collection, scheduled for release this Winter, unites three foundational action RPG titles—Ys I, Ys II, and Ys III: Wanderers from Ys—on the X68000 Z, a revival of the classic Japanese computing platform. The Ys Legacy Collection is not a straightforward reissue of the original X68000 ports released in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Instead, BEEP is delivering enhanced versions based on its well-received remaster projects: the 2021 release of Ys I & II and the 2022 edition of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys.

Both projects sought fidelity to the PC-88SR originals, preserving the hallmark features and musical scores fans cherished, while ensuring compatibility and polish for the modern X68000 Z hardware. At this stage, BEEP has revealed the game's official cover art alongside a limited set of in-game screenshots.

Attendees of the indie game development festival Bitsummit, held from July 18th to 20th at Kyoto's Miyako Messe, may catch the first public showcase of the collection at the Zuiki booth, hinting at the publisher’s commitment to both preservation and modern presentation of classic Japanese games. This release follows a period of renewed interest in the Ys franchise, echoing the announcement from D4 Enterprise earlier this year regarding a comprehensive PC compilation.

That separate project will also feature Ys I, Ys II, Ys III, and Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand, and is headed for a 2026 launch, with pre-orders open through D4 Enterprise’s AC-Mall website. BEEP’s initiative stands out for its careful restoration and adaptation to the X68000 Z ecosystem, reflecting both a celebration of Nihon Falcom’s enduring RPG legacy and a response to growing retro gaming demand in Japan and abroad.

While the official price for the Ys Legacy Collection remains unannounced, the publisher’s previous limited-edition runs suggest it will be of great interest to both collectors and series veterans. As the Ys series continues to bridge generations and platforms—spanning the PC-88SR, X68000, and now X68000 Z—each new release affirms Nihon Falcom’s influence and underscores the ongoing appeal of classic action RPGs.

For more updates on the Ys Legacy Collection, industry professionals and fans alike should follow BEEP’s channels and anticipate further details as the Winter release draws closer.
