Kidbash: Super Legend Brings Roguelite Platforming and Creative Weapon Mixing to Xbox and PC
Kidbash: Super Legend is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated indie releases in the roguelite action platformer genre for Xbox and PC.
Developed collaboratively by Indonesian studio Authentic Remixes, described as 'visual-based storytellers,' and the game developer Fat Raccoon, this upcoming title pairs a unique toy-like aesthetic with dynamic gameplay inspired by both retro and modern classics.
Announced for a targeted 2026 release, Kidbash: Super Legend invites players into the mysterious world of O.D.D., where they guide the amnesiac protagonist, Kidbash, on a journey to recover lost memories.
The world of O.D.D.
is filled with carefully crafted single-player stages, platforming challenges, and dynamic enemy encounters.
A standout feature is the inventive weapon system: players can wield a blaster cannon, sword, and bombs, but the true innovation lies in the ability to combine these weapons into creative, new forms and unlock powerful modifications to enhance combat and exploration.
According to Irfansyah "Bima" Aryabima, co-founder of Authentic Remixes, the development team aimed to blend movement mechanics found in Mega Man X, the weapon mixing systems reminiscent of Kirby 64 and Gunstar Heroes, and the engaging gameplay loops characteristic of popular modern roguelikes such as Hades and Dead Cells.
Speaking to Time Extension, Aryabima stated that the team's approach fused influences across generations: "We're melding X's acrobatic movement with the weapon blending you’d see in Kirby and Gunstar Heroes.
For replayability, we studied leading roguelikes to craft a tight modern experience."
Beyond the core platforming, Kidbash: Super Legend incorporates a village-building mechanic.
While initial impressions recalled the city development of classic titles like Dark Cloud, Bima clarified that its inspiration more closely matches the town expansion system from the PlayStation's Digimon World, where players grow their hub by meeting conditions and finding characters during their adventure.
Although not as complex as its predecessor, this feature adds meaningful progression each time players return to the game's central village hub, offering new activities and rewards.
Visual inspiration for Kidbash: Super Legend is deeply rooted in both Japanese game magazine art and vintage vinyl toys.
Remarkably, the character Kidbash was first conceived as a toy: Bima and fellow Authentic Remixes co-founder Achmad Ezra Garnida, both passionate toy collectors and Nintendo enthusiasts, developed the character by combining design traits from legendary icons like Mario and Mega Man.
Discussing the creative process, Bima explained, "We wanted to create the next step in the family tree of character design, much like how classic characters have evolved over the years.
Kidbash stems from the term 'kitbashing,' where you mix and match figures to invent something new."
The game's development pipeline embraces a retro-modern hybrid approach.
Authentic Remixes spearheads the art and storytelling, while Fat Raccoon handles programming and co-designs gameplay.
Art assets are modeled and animated in Blender, then rendered into sprite sheets for Unity's 2D animation system—a process reminiscent of the iconic Donkey Kong Country development, but with today's enhanced capabilities.
Currently, Kidbash: Super Legend is confirmed for release on both PC and Xbox platforms, with the team expressing hopes to expand to more modern consoles.
For now, fans of inventive indie action titles can wishlist the game on Steam and follow its progress as it heads towards its 2026 launch.
Stay tuned to gaming news outlets for more updates on Kidbash: Super Legend, as Authentic Remixes and Fat Raccoon continue to blend nostalgia and innovation in this standout roguelite platformer.
