The move centralizes oversight of Atari’s European expansion and its regional development and business operations, including studios in the UK and Sweden and commercial operations in Germany.
According to Atari’s announcement, Deptolla will continue to manage the company’s recently established European headquarters in Munster, which the publisher describes as an important technology hub.
That Munster office also houses tech-based product efforts and connects Atari’s global business with development resources in India.
Atari additionally noted the site’s association with MobyGames, the widely referenced video games database.
Atari chairman and CEO Wade Rosen praised Deptolla’s contributions since joining the company in 2023, saying Deptolla has become a valued leader in Atari’s revitalization efforts.
Rosen indicated that, in his expanded remit, Deptolla will guide the company’s European footprint and help restore Atari’s profile as a gaming and pop culture brand.
Deptolla brings executive experience from outside the games industry as well as board roles within gaming.
He previously served as President and board member at ThrivePass, which he co-founded in 2014.
He also currently sits on the boards of HR technology company Wishlist and video game publisher Apogee Entertainment.
In responding to his appointment, Deptolla framed Europe as both a significant consumer market and a deep pool of development talent, noting that the last year has been pivotal for Atari’s European expansion and that the company has projects underway in the region.
Atari also announced a senior studio hire to work alongside Deptolla: Coatsink CEO Richard Snowdon will join Atari Europe as Vice President of Studios, Europe.
Snowdon’s appointment pairs a studio-focused operational lead with Deptolla’s regional business oversight.
