Developer teams Grape Garden Games and Team Starfall have announced a PC demo for a reworked version of classic Game Boy entries under the Kirby banner, titled Kirby's Dream Land 2+3.

The teams say the demo will arrive on PC on May 30 and present the franchise's early Game Boy adventures with refreshed visuals, redesigned levels, and added content.

The developers also emphasized that this is an independent project and they are not affiliated with HAL Laboratory, the original studio behind the Kirby series.

Kirby debuted on Nintendo's original Game Boy hardware in the early 1990s under HAL Laboratory and Nintendo's publishing, and several entries in the series have since been celebrated for their approachable platforming and character design.

Over the years, fan communities and homebrew creators have produced visual enhancements and ROM hacks that reinterpret these early titles for modern systems.

Grape Garden Games and Team Starfall's announcement places their work in that longer tradition while targeting a PC audience rather than official Nintendo platforms like the Nintendo Switch or the Nintendo eShop.

Rewriting the developer's announcement in journalistic terms: the teams said the upcoming PC demo will deliver the 'legendary Game Boy tale with a brand-new coat of paint,' adding that players should expect improved levels and additional content in the demo.

They were explicit that the project is unofficial and not connected to HAL Laboratory.

The history of fan-made remakes and Nintendo's responses is well documented.

In 2016, Nintendo moved to stop distribution of AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake), and in 2021 the company issued actions that led to the discontinuation of the Prime 2D project.

Nintendo has also intervened in other fan-driven Pokémon and IP-related projects over the years.

Those precedents have prompted community discussion about how long independent remakes and ports will remain available.

For now, the Kirby remaster demo release remains a developer-led PC initiative.

ROM hacks and community projects, including some reinterpretations of Kirby's Game Boy outings such as Kirby's Dream Land 2 DX, continue to circulate in various forms at the time of writing.

Players interested in the demo should look for the developer announcement and distribution details on May 30 and note that this is not an official Nintendo release on Nintendo Switch or the eShop.
