Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Release Date and Editions Announced for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Consoles

After more than two decades, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is poised to make its highly anticipated debut on modern platforms.

Developed by WayForward, the long-lost chapter in the Shantae series will finally launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on August 19, 2025.

This release marks the end of an extensive development journey that started with the Game Boy Advance, bringing the fan-favorite Half-Genie Hero back to the spotlight for both longtime followers and newcomers. Initially announced as a Game Boy Advance project in the early 2000s, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was shelved during its original development cycle.

However, WayForward has resurrected this previously unreleased adventure, bringing it to completion with enhanced visuals and bonus content.

The updated release retains the game's authentic pixel art while introducing HD illustrations and support for higher resolutions, ensuring it looks sharp on today’s hardware. WayForward confirmed that in addition to the standard edition, a digital deluxe edition will be available for all platforms.

The deluxe package provides players with three exclusive in-game costumes for Shantae, adding a personal touch to the vibrant platforming experience. Physical versions of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution are being handled by Limited Run Games, a publisher known for its focus on collectible releases.

Three physical editions will be available: “Regular,” “Classic,” and “Revolutionary.” Each version comes with the digital deluxe content included directly on the disc or cartridge, guaranteeing that fans won’t miss out on additional costumes or features regardless of their preferred format.

Pre-orders for these editions will open on August 8, 2025, with pricing tiers ranging from $35 to $175 depending on the package and bonus items. A WayForward spokesperson stated that the team is excited to finally bring this unique installment in the Shantae franchise to modern audiences, having preserved an important piece of gaming history.

The studio’s commitment to the series’ legacy is evident, not just through the game’s meticulous restoration, but also via its partnerships to ensure a wide-reaching, multi-platform launch. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution joins the growing catalog of retro-inspired releases making waves on the Nintendo Switch eShop, as well as on competing digital stores, offering new opportunities for players to revisit or discover one of indie gaming’s most enduring heroines.
