Digital Extremes, renowned for its hit free-to-play shooter Warframe, has officially confirmed that Warframe is planned for release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

This major announcement marks a significant next step for the enduring live-service title, ensuring its continued presence on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware platform and reinforcing Digital Extremes’ commitment to supporting the evolving Switch ecosystem. The news surfaced during a recent community video featuring Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair and creative director Rebecca Ford.

During the conversation, Sinclair shared that the studio is now actively developing for Nintendo Switch 2.

He credited this advancement to their collaboration with Nintendo, stating that development kits for Switch 2 are now in the hands of the Warframe team, enabling them to begin optimizing the game for the new hardware. "We're moving forward with development for Switch 2," Sinclair explained.

"We're grateful to Nintendo for providing us access to their new hardware.

Our technical leads are already hard at work exploring the platform's capabilities, and the early results are incredibly promising.

There's a lot of potential here that has our team excited for what's to come." Rebecca Ford went on to assure fans that gameplay footage showcasing Warframe running on Nintendo Switch 2 is in the pipeline.

The development team is evaluating opportunities to present these advancements in future updates, highlighting the enhanced performance and features possible with the next-generation device. Since its original launch on Nintendo Switch in November 2018, Warframe has maintained a strong presence on the eShop, earning praise for its robust port and continued content updates.

The arrival of Warframe on Switch 2 is expected to take advantage of the platform’s improved performance, graphics, and hardware features, offering both newcomers and established players an upgraded experience. For existing users, Warframe is already compatible with the current Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has confirmed that backwards compatibility will be supported on Switch 2.

This means players can continue their existing progress while they await the official native Switch 2 version. The addition of Warframe to Nintendo Switch 2’s lineup demonstrates Digital Extremes’ ongoing support for Nintendo’s evolving hardware and their broader strategy to make Warframe accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

With over a decade of live-service innovation and millions of downloads worldwide, Warframe’s upcoming launch on Nintendo Switch 2 is positioned to be a milestone in both the game's and the platform’s histories.
