SEGA Announces Virtua Fighter 5 REVO for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 with Crossplay
In a major announcement during today’s Virtua Fighter Direct stream, SEGA confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will soon be landing on current-generation consoles.
The acclaimed fighting game, which previously launched for PC via Steam in January, is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, greatly expanding its accessibility for fans across the globe.
Virtua Fighter as a franchise has long held a respected place in the fighting game community, known for its deep and technical gameplay.
Virtua Fighter 5 REVO builds on this legacy as an enhanced port, offering modern upgrades while maintaining the series’ trademark competitive intensity.
SEGA is positioning this release as the ultimate version of Virtua Fighter 5.
Notably, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will boast full crossplay functionality between all supported platforms.
This represents a significant milestone, as it is currently the first Nintendo Switch 2 title confirmed to support cross-platform matchmaking.
SEGA stated that players will be able to compete against friends and rivals regardless of their chosen console, ensuring a unified player base and improved matchmaking experiences across the board.
Virtua Fighter 5 REVO is an updated iteration of the PlayStation 4 exclusive Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown.
This version is powered by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Dragon Engine, the same robust technology behind the Yakuza series.
The game features enhanced visuals and dynamic new customization options for every character.
Most importantly for the competitive scene, SEGA has integrated rollback netcode, delivering consistently smooth online matches—a critical feature for modern fighting games.
Currently available on PC via Steam, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will make its debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future.
This multi-platform approach, combined with crossplay and technological improvements, underlines SEGA’s commitment to both legacy fans and new players.
Fans of the fighting genre and Virtua Fighter veterans alike can look forward to revisiting one of the most revered titles in fighting game history, now updated for a new generation of hardware and online play.
