SEGA has officially confirmed that its iconic fighting game series, Virtua Fighter, is heading to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
Following a recent announcement coinciding with the close of EVO Japan—one of the fighting game community’s premier events—SEGA revealed that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
will launch on Nintendo’s next-generation console, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, expanding the franchise’s reach across all current major gaming platforms.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
is developed by the accomplished Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, best known for the Yakuza series, in collaboration with SEGA’s renowned AM2 team.
This new edition promises a robust upgrade, bringing the legendary 3D fighting experience to modern systems with highly anticipated features.
Building on its earlier release for PC via Steam, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
on the Switch 2 is set to include rollback netcode and complete cross-play functionality—allowing players on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam to compete seamlessly, a first for the series.
SEGA has emphasized its commitment to making Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
more than just a simple port.
According to a company spokesperson, the new version will deliver additional content designed to offer both long-time fans and newcomers fresh challenges and enhancements, with further details to be announced as the release approaches.
Community anticipation has been heightened by the promise of new features and the inclusion of modern online infrastructure.
The official game description highlights Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
as the ultimate remaster of the classic 3D fighting title, now powered by rollback netcode for smoother online matches and presented with stunning 4K graphics.
Players will have access to a variety of modes, including Arcade, Rank Match, and custom online tournaments with up to 16 participants.
Spectator Mode and robust tournament tools cement this release as an appealing package for both competitive and casual fighters.
Since its debut on Steam for PC earlier in 2024, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
has earned a warm reception for its faithful gameplay and smart modernization.
The inclusion of cross-platform play and advanced netcode ensures a vibrant, competitive online scene at launch.
With Virtua Fighter previously absent from Nintendo platforms since the franchise’s inception, its arrival on Switch 2 is a significant milestone for both SEGA and fighting game enthusiasts.
While a specific release date has yet to be announced, SEGA has promised additional content details in upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations and official press releases.
