Vampire Survivors, the acclaimed indie hit from developer poncle, is releasing a substantial free update today, introducing content themed around the legendary SaGa series in partnership with Square Enix.
The collaboration, announced during the Triple I showcase on April 10, 2025, marks a significant crossover, following the game's previous successful expansions such as the Castlevania DLC.
The new content comes in the form of the 'Emerald Diorama Expansion,' which celebrates the SaGa franchise—a series long known for its unconventional mechanics and rich history stretching across the Nintendo platform ecosystem and beyond.
The update is shaped by close collaboration with Square Enix, ensuring that SaGa’s distinctive gameplay is faithfully represented.
In particular, the update takes cues from the most recent entry, SaGa Emerald Beyond, which debuted in 2024 to critical acclaim and reinforced the series' resurgence within the JRPG world.
Players of Vampire Survivors on Nintendo Switch, as well as other platforms, can now dive into a wealth of SaGa-inspired content: more than twelve new playable characters, sixteen unique weapons, a fresh stage, innovative gameplay mechanics, and a special Showstopper mode.
Reflecting classic JRPG party dynamics, some characters will be able to join together for shared adventures, while SaGa characters with critical HP will benefit from a full-spectrum stat boost, capturing the high-stakes action the series is known for.
Alongside the SaGa material, poncle is rolling out a variety of additional features in this free update.
Surprising fans, the developer has included a chicken-themed stage and character for the base game, as well as two original adventures with six chapters apiece—one set in the core game universe and the other tied to the Tides of the Foscari DLC.
These new chapters add further depth to a title renowned for its post-launch support and community engagement.
Vampire Survivors' previous Castlevania expansion, a highlight of 2024, was widely praised for its faithful homage and engaging gameplay, earning a place as one of the year's standout releases.
The overlap between Vampire Survivors’ continued growth and the SaGa franchise’s recent momentum is particularly notable: in addition to SaGa Emerald Beyond, 2024 saw a remake of Romancing SaGa 2, while SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered arrived in 2025, all reinforcing Square Enix’s commitment to revitalizing its classic IPs.
With the launch of the Emerald Diorama Expansion, Vampire Survivors further cements its status as a platform for inventive crossovers, serving both longtime SaGa fans and newcomers eager for fresh challenges on the Nintendo Switch and other supported platforms.
Fans are encouraged to explore the new content, available now through the eShop and relevant storefronts.
This update underscores poncle’s reputation for not just tapping into nostalgia, but delivering quality experiences that honor gaming’s most celebrated franchises while expanding Vampire Survivors’ gameplay repertoire.
