Pokémon Attraction Announced for Universal Studios: Permanent Experience Coming to Japan and Florida

Universal Studios and The Pokémon Company have officially confirmed the development of a permanent Pokémon attraction, further strengthening ties between two entertainment powerhouses.

Following the global success of Super Nintendo World, the upcoming Pokémon-themed experience is poised to captivate fans first in Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, before making its way to Universal Studios Florida.

This announcement comes as a strategic collaboration, promising attendees an immersive adventure within one of gaming's most beloved franchises. In a recent press statement, both Universal Studios and The Pokémon Company emphasized their commitment to delivering an unprecedented level of interactivity and realism for park guests.

The press release detailed, “Universal Studios Japan is proud to build on its prior success and bring to life the world of Pokémon in new and enriching ways for the first time.

Following its debut in Japan, Universal Destinations & Experiences will deliver unique Pokémon experiences across the company’s global footprint.

Further details about the project will be announced at a later date.” The initial rollout is set for Universal Studios Japan, leveraging the company's previous triumphs with localized attractions such as the NO LIMIT! Parade and seasonal Pokémon-themed events.

The Pokémon Company President and CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara, reflected on the ongoing partnership, noting, “Since announcing our long-term alliance in 2021, we have collaborated with Universal Studios Japan to produce authentic Pokémon experiences like the NO LIMIT! Parade and Halloween shows.

Our mission is to enrich both the real and virtual worlds through Pokémon, and with this project, we aim to create theme park entertainment that surprises and delights fans around the globe.” Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, reiterated the partnership’s goals: “The Pokémon Company is one of the most beloved interactive franchises in the world, and through our ongoing partnership, we will continue bringing its vibrant world to life in new and innovative ways for years to come.” While specific details remain forthcoming, the companies have teased that the attraction will be a "hyperrealistic experience that stimulates all five senses," signaling Universal Studios' commitment to pushing boundaries in theme park entertainment.

Notably, the Pokémon attraction will debut as a standalone installation, rather than as an expansion to the existing Super Nintendo World—a testament to the enduring global appeal of the Pokémon brand and its significant cultural impact on gaming and entertainment. Universal Studios Japan has established itself as a premier destination for Nintendo fans, and with Pokémon joining its lineup, the park looks set to offer an even more diverse range of experiences tied to beloved video game franchises.

Further expansion is anticipated, with plans to bring the Pokémon attraction to Universal Studios Florida following its success in Japan. With over 440 million games sold globally, Pokémon remains a cornerstone of Nintendo’s portfolio, thriving on platforms such as the Nintendo Switch and gracing the eShop with countless best-selling titles.

As details emerge, fans can expect updates from both Universal Studios and The Pokémon Company about opening dates and attractions, marking an exciting new chapter for gamers and theme park enthusiasts alike.
