Nintendo Switch Dominates UK Charts: 'Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined' Makes Strong Debut

The UK gaming charts for this week spotlight a significant shift for Nintendo fans, as the Nintendo Switch and its successor, Nintendo Switch 2, continue to maintain a strong grip on the market.

With major releases and enduring bestsellers topping the charts, Nintendo platforms showcase their continuing dominance amongst both new titles and legacy franchises. Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined, developed by Square Enix, marks its debut with an impressive entrance, securing fourth place on the charts.

The launch performance highlights robust support for the Nintendo platform, with 37% of sales coming from the Switch 2 and 22% from the original Switch model.

Together, Switch family consoles accounted for nearly 60% of the title's initial week sales, underscoring the franchise's popularity with Nintendo users and the series' ability to captivate both returning supporters and new audiences on the latest hardware. Koei Tecmo’s Nioh 3 also made its first appearance in the rankings, taking third position; however, this title is not currently available for any Nintendo Switch platform.

Meanwhile, My Hero Academia: All's Justice, another debut entry, landed at 27th place, but it too bypasses the Nintendo ecosystem. The top of the chart this week witnessed EA Sports FC 26, published by Electronic Arts, claiming victory by leaping thirteen places to clinch the number one spot.

The platform spread for EA Sports FC 26 included PlayStation 5 (47%), Nintendo Switch (21%), PlayStation 4 (14%), and Switch 2 (9%), highlighting the franchise’s wide-reaching appeal and the consistent sales power of Nintendo’s platforms, even in multiplatform releases. Longtime favorites from Nintendo’s own lineup continue to show remarkable staying power.

Mario Kart World, an iteration of the iconic kart-racing series, maintained high placement, only recently edged out of the top spot by EA Sports FC 26.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains a staple for Switch family users, ranking fifth, while Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also show enduring popularity. Other notable Switch-centric chart placements include new and classic franchises: Donkey Kong Bananza, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and the much-anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Highly regarded RPG and adventure titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom further illustrate the breadth and quality of the Switch and Switch 2 library, maintaining strong positions within the top 40. These results, as compiled by market research leader GfK, reinforce the central role of the Nintendo Switch family in the UK gaming market.

With ongoing developer support from industry leaders like Square Enix, combined with the enduring resonance of Nintendo’s own first-party offerings, the Switch platform continues to be a powerhouse for both new releases and evergreen titles on the UK charts.
