The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on December 3, 2026.
These new developer notes clarify core loop mechanics—recruit, raise, synthesize—and introduce several new monsters and synthesis examples.
Square Enix describes players as monster wranglers who do not fight directly; instead, they assemble parties of monsters to fight on their behalf.
Parties can include up to four active monsters plus four in reserve for a total of eight, and players may swap monsters in and out during play.
The company emphasizes flexible command options: players can issue specific orders to individual monsters or set a general strategy for the group, making knowledge of each monster’s strengths essential to success.
The game features over 500 monsters organized into eight families, each assigned one of nine ranks from G to X, and a size designation of small (S) or large (L).
Monsters possess spells, abilities, and Traits that affect combat; large monsters occupy two party slots but gain additional Traits and can perform more actions per turn.
Personality types determine growth limits and attribute development, and some items allow players to change a monster’s personality.
Square Enix also detailed the Wrangler’s Spirit, a one-per-battle special effect that can activate to support the player’s team.
The effect varies by protagonist: playing as Bianca grants HP healing and an attack boost, while playing as Nera restores MP and raises defense.
Recruitment and progression follow familiar franchise conventions: monsters may ask to join after battle, players can use a Show of Force during fights to recruit, and items can raise recruitment odds.
Monsters gain experience and Talent Points on level-up; each monster can hold up to three Talents that can be improved to teach new abilities or raise base attributes.
Synthesis remains central.
Parent monsters must reach level 10 before they can be used, and both parents disappear after synthesis to produce a child that can inherit parent Talents.
Repeated synthesis raises a child’s Plus Value, which can grant base-attribute bonuses or even result in offspring of a higher rank than their parents.
Square Enix highlighted several synthesis examples, including combinations that produce escudogre, well wisher, and mitey oak, and noted that some special patterns can require up to four monsters.
New monsters showcased include Slime Balls (three flavor variants), Bamboo Badboy, and Groovy Grouse.
With a December 3, 2026 release date set for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, Square Enix is continuing to reveal more roster and system details as launch approaches.
