During the QUByte Connect 2025 showcase, QUByte Interactive revealed the highly anticipated release date for Street Racer Collection.
The classic kart racing bundle is officially set to launch on November 27th, 2025, and will be available across a wide variety of modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
This announcement positions the collection as a significant release for fans of retro racing games, offering a new opportunity to revisit a cult classic from the golden age of arcade racing.
Street Racer Collection encompasses several iconic versions of the original game: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Sega Mega Drive, MS-DOS, and the Nintendo Game Boy.
However, the collection does not feature the PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, or Commodore Amiga editions, despite QUByte Interactive’s recent reveal of PS1 support in its QUByte Emulation Engine.
The absence of these later platform ports makes the collection less comprehensive than some enthusiasts expected, particularly in light of the PS1 version's unique features.
Nevertheless, the inclusion of the four core versions ensures that a significant part of Street Racer's legacy will be preserved for a contemporary audience.
Originally developed by Vivid Image and published by Ubisoft, Street Racer debuted in 1994 following the massive success of Nintendo’s Super Mario Kart in 1992.
Critics at the time praised Street Racer’s inventive blend of competitive kart racing with fighting game mechanics, as well as its colorful cast of characters.
In one notable review, Computer & Video Games lauded it as "the most enjoyable race game on the SNES," awarding it an impressive 94% score.
The game was celebrated for its diverse lineup of eight eccentric racers, each boasting unique abilities: from Frankenstein's monster’s grandson, to the wise Turkish magician Hodja, the daring airman Helmut, a laid-back Australian surfer, and a retired sumo wrestler, players had a wide array of personalities to choose from.
Multiple modes—ranging from traditional championship and head-to-head races, to the inventive soccer and rumble competitions—added to its replayability, offering 27 distinct tracks that spanned chaotic, obstacle-filled locales like Mount Rushmore and Transylvania.
As described on its Steam page, Street Racer Collection reimagines the classic’s high-speed, brawling gameplay for today’s audience, delivering arcade-style fun that stands the test of time.
The game’s fusion of racing and combat provides a unique challenge, tasking players to master both their driving skills and their fighter’s instincts as they battle rivals for victory.
With the confirmed release date of November 27th, 2025, Street Racer Collection aims to capture the nostalgic appeal of the original while making it accessible to a new generation on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.
Fans of retro kart racers and video game preservation alike now have an official date to mark on their calendars, as QUByte Interactive brings one of the most memorable racing games of the 90s back to the spotlight.
