Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Receives Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade: Demo and Opening Movie Details

GungHo Online Entertainment and Nihon Falcom have officially announced that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, with significant upgrades designed for next-generation hardware.

The revered JRPG, which originally redefined the Trails series and set a new benchmark for narrative-driven RPGs, will feature a digital-only release on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter brings a suite of technical improvements over its Nintendo Switch predecessor.

According to GungHo and Falcom, players can expect a higher frame rate, enhanced resolution, and faster loading times, ensuring a premium gameplay experience.

For existing owners looking to migrate from Nintendo Switch to Switch 2, an Upgrade Pass will be available, catering to current fans who want to experience the game’s visual and performance enhancements without starting over. A free demo version is set to arrive soon on the Nintendo Switch eShop, offering players the opportunity to experience the Prologue chapter of this remade classic.

Demos are currently available on select other platforms.

Progress made in the demo—including save data—can be seamlessly carried over to the full game upon its release, though some aspects may differ from the final version.

Falcom emphasizes that players, stepping into the roles of Estelle Bright, Joshua, and Scherazard, will undertake the first major tasks around the Rolent region as part of the Bracer Guild, encountering intrigue, unique side quests, and a pivotal boss battle.

The demo includes exploration through the first four dungeons, the completion of seven main story events, and eight optional side quests.

Players will interact with a range of NPCs, each with their own dialogue and available quests, further showcasing the title’s depth.

Combat in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter blends real-time and turn-based elements, enabling tactical gameplay, chain attacks, and follow-up moves that cater to both new and returning fans.

Key features include newly recorded voice-overs in both English and Japanese, vivid HD 3D graphics, and the return of intuitive JRPG mechanics.

Additionally, the opening movie—now revealed—will greet players at startup, introducing the storied cast against the backdrop of Liberl Kingdom.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter for Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on September 19, 2025.
