Bandai Namco and developer Brownies have officially unveiled their latest title, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, during Summer Game Fest 2025.
This announcement marks the debut of an all-new intellectual property (IP) from two respected names in the gaming industry.
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is set to release for Nintendo Switch on September 19, 2025, further expanding the platform's acclaimed library of rogue-lite games.
Bandai Namco, a publisher renowned for its diverse portfolio that includes beloved franchises like Tales, Dragon Ball, and Pac-Man, is collaborating with Brownies, the Japanese studio celebrated for its creative leadership on fantasy and role-playing games such as EGGLIA: Rebirth and Fantasy Life.
The fusion of Bandai Namco’s global publishing prowess and Brownies’ storytelling expertise marks Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree as a highly anticipated addition to the Nintendo Switch lineup.
Announced live at Summer Game Fest, the game was showcased with an engaging trailer revealing Towa’s quest to protect the Sacred Tree, while navigating procedurally generated environments and challenging foes—a strong signal of the game’s rogue-lite mechanics that emphasize replayability and unique player journeys.
While developers have yet to reveal finer details about the gameplay systems, the presentation at Summer Game Fest highlighted vibrant visuals, imaginative world design, and innovative rogue-lite features that set Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree apart from other titles in the genre.
"We're excited to introduce a completely new adventure that fuses classic rogue-lite dynamics with the heart and creativity Brownies is known for," a Bandai Namco representative stated through an official event announcement.
"Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree blends accessibility for newcomers with deep systems for veterans, offering something unique for every Nintendo Switch player."
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree will debut exclusively on Nintendo Switch, available both physically and digitally via the Nintendo eShop.
As of the time of announcement, no additional versions—such as a potential Switch 2 Edition—have been confirmed.
Bandai Namco emphasized that further details on supported platforms and potential updates will be shared closer to launch via official Nintendo Direct presentations and the company’s online channels.
The game’s September 2025 release positions it well within the Nintendo Switch's thriving market, which has seen significant success in the rogue-lite genre with titles such as Dead Cells, Hades, and Slay the Spire.
Brownies' involvement ensures high expectations for a compelling narrative and robust mechanics, leveraging their strong reputation among Japanese indie developers.
Fans can look forward to Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree joining Bandai Namco's celebrated portfolio this fall.
