Toei Games: Toei Company Launches New Publishing Brand Targeting Steam and Nintendo Switch

Toei Games: new publishing arm from Toei Company aims at Steam and consoles

Toei Company, the long-established Japanese media firm founded in 1951, has launched a new game publishing brand under the name Toei Games.

The company said the initiative represents a new corporate challenge and that it will initially focus on PC distribution via Steam before expanding into console platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.

The publisher has confirmed a first-title reveal scheduled for 24th April, and has stated that its initial lineup will consist entirely of original games created by developers in Japan and overseas rather than titles based on existing Toei-owned intellectual property.

An official Toei Games website is live and currently contains basic information about the division and its upcoming plans.

Toei Company is also the majority shareholder in Toei Animation, the studio behind major anime franchises such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

While those franchises are part of Toei’s broader media portfolio, Toei Games has clarified that its opening slate will prioritize new IP from independent creators and studio partners.

In journalistic terms, Toei Company framed the launch of Toei Games as an intentional expansion into interactive entertainment, with a staged release strategy that puts PC storefronts first before moving to console storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store and Xbox storefronts.

Platform-focused announcements for console titles are commonly made through platform channels and themed showcases like Nintendo Direct and platform holders’ digital events.

The move positions Toei Company among a growing number of legacy media companies formalizing their presence in the games market via dedicated publishing labels.

The announced April 24 reveal will provide the first concrete look at the creative direction and the first title from Toei Games; until that disclosure, the publisher’s stated plans and platform roadmap are the primary confirmed details.

For industry observers and developers, Toei Games’ entry underscores continued industry interest from established media companies in original interactive properties and global publishing strategies that begin on PC and scale to consoles.
