Ridge Racer Type 4 Cars Reimagined: StudWorks Releases Detailed LEGO Custom Builds

Ridge Racer Type 4, a classic in Namco’s renowned arcade racing series, continues to hold a revered place among gaming enthusiasts.

Released in 1998 for the original PlayStation, Ridge Racer Type 4 earned acclaim for its dynamic drift-based gameplay and engaging narrative involving rival racing teams.

Despite its ongoing popularity, physical model kits representing the iconic vehicles from the game have remained exceptionally rare, with only limited 1/43 scale polystone models produced by Kyosho in Japan—these now command hefty prices among collectors. Recognizing the gap in the market for accessible and authentic representations of these legendary cars, LEGO creator StudWorks has taken the initiative to meticulously recreate four standout vehicles from Ridge Racer Type 4.

These custom builds bring together the creative depth of the LEGO Speed Champions line with the racing heritage of Namco’s franchise, providing long-time fans with highly detailed, brick-built alternatives. StudWorks introduces the project by stating their new LEGO creations are, “LEGO Speed Champions MOCs of the Assoluto Bisonte (completely redesigned from the 2022 build), Terrazi Troop, Lizard Detector, and Age Solo Dirigeant from Ridge Racer Type 4—each complete with a bespoke minifigure of the series mascot, Reiko Nagase.” This collection was born out of a frustration with the scarcity and high cost of previous officially licensed models, all of which were handmade by Kyosho and are now valued well above $1,000 for complete sets. Unlike the fragile, out-of-reach collectibles, StudWorks’ designs are built at approximately 1/24 scale using LEGO bricks, making them more durable and accessible.

The builder explains, "It took more than six months of work to replicate each car in remarkable brick-built detail, with custom, high-quality stickers designed by Brickstickershop to accurately convey each vehicle’s unique livery." The featured models—the Assoluto Bisonte, Terrazi Troop, Lizard Detector, and Age Solo Dirigeant—are faithful representations of the in-game cars, showcasing both visual accuracy and vibrant detailing.

Enthusiasts now have a new way to showcase their appreciation for Ridge Racer Type 4, without contending with the scarcity and high price tags of the original Kyosho models. Instructions for these custom LEGO kits are now available for purchase through StudWorks, with companion sticker sets from Brickstickershop expected soon.

This initiative not only celebrates the enduring legacy of Ridge Racer Type 4, but also highlights the thriving creativity within the LEGO and gaming communities. For fans of Namco’s iconic arcade racing series, StudWorks’ custom LEGO builds offer an accessible, hands-on tribute that bridges the gap between digital nostalgia and tangible craftsmanship.

With meticulous attention to detail and a passion for gaming history, these builds provide a fresh and collectable way to honor a classic title from the golden age of racing games.
