CD Projekt Red has launched Patch 4.0.4 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch, bringing a significant wave of updates, new features, and additional downloadable content (DLC) inspired by the popular Netflix adaptation of the franchise.
This long-awaited update, originally announced in July 2021, enhances the Switch version with cross-progression, event-specific gear, and notable quality-of-life improvements, ensuring that The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch continues to deliver a robust and modern RPG experience.
Key Features: Cross-Progression and Netflix-Inspired DLC
One of the most anticipated additions in Patch 4.0.4 is the introduction of cross-progression, allowing players to seamlessly sync their game saves between multiple platforms.
This new system replaces the prior save integration from Patch 3.6, enabling users to pick up where they left off—on any supported platform—via automatic save uploads to the cloud.
To use this feature, players must log in with a GOG account, regardless of whether they are playing on the Nintendo Switch, PC, or other platforms.
In addition to technical enhancements, Patch 4.0.4 brings fresh content drawn from The Witcher Netflix series.
The update adds a new side quest entitled "In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow," located in Velen, with rewards inspired by the show's visual style.
Fans can now outfit Geralt with the White Tiger of the West Armor and Swords of the Nine-Tailed Vixen, don Dandelion’s Netflix-inspired appearance, and equip the alternative Nilfgaardian Armor set—all accessible in the Options menu under Gameplay.
Furthermore, players who register for the MY REWARDS program at thewitcher.com/my-rewards will receive exclusive in-game items, including the Roach Card and the Dol Blathanna Armor Set.
Quality of Life Improvements and Gameplay Tweaks
CD Projekt Red has implemented numerous fan-requested quality-of-life changes for Nintendo Switch users.
Highlights include:
- Quick Sign Casting, allowing for rapid switching and casting of Signs without using the radial menu;
- Dynamic options for hiding the minimap and quest objectives during exploration;
- Instant herb looting with a single button press;
- Adjustable subtitle, NPC chatter, and dialogue font sizes;
- Controller enhancements like slow walk and improved sprint mode options.
Additional improvements allow for easier management of potions, bombs, and oils, and better camera control while target-locking in combat.
The update also introduces Chinese and Korean voice-overs, further broadening the game's international accessibility.
The update incorporates elements from the "Full Combat Rebalance 3" community mod by Flash_in_the_flesh, delivering a curated balance overhaul and further gameplay refinements.
Numerous quest and cutscene bugs have been addressed, including fixes to “Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear,” "From Ofier's Distant Shores," and others, strengthening the overall experience for both new and veteran players.
A Commitment to Ongoing Excellence on Nintendo Switch
Patch 4.0.4 demonstrates CD Projekt Red's ongoing commitment to supporting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch.
With over 50 million lifetime game sales across all platforms (as of April 2023), this RPG remains a flagship title on the eShop and continues to attract both portable and home-console audiences.
The inclusion of cross-progression and Netflix-inspired content ensures the Switch port upholds modern standards, keeping it aligned with releases on PC and other consoles.
