Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Patch 3 Adds Free Franchise Crossover Characters and Music on Nintendo Switch

SEGA is cementing its commitment to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, reaffirming support for the multiplatform kart racer despite the game falling below initial sales projections.

In a detailed announcement earlier today, SEGA unveiled a robust array of free content set to arrive as part of the highly anticipated Patch 3, scheduled to launch across all platforms—including the Nintendo Switch—on March 18, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, first released in late 2024, blends high-speed kart action with a celebratory mix of SEGA-owned franchises and collaborative partners.

While critics praised the title's nostalgic callbacks and inventive course design, sales performance has not met internal benchmarks.

However, SEGA is doubling down on post-launch content, signaling its willingness to nurture the game’s growing community with substantial updates and fan-driven inclusions.

Patch 3 brings a trio of free characters to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds over the coming months, each pulling from beloved properties within the SEGA and partner ecosystem.

Red from Angry Birds will join the roster in April 2026, complete with his signature “Super Roaster” vehicle.

Following this addition, April will also see the arrival of Captain Goro Majima from Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, racing in his own “Goromaru” car.

Rounding out the crossover event, Arle from the Puyo Puyo franchise makes her way to the tracks in May 2026 with the “Twinkle Bayoen” kart.

Speaking to the intent behind these additions, SEGA representatives emphasized that the new characters are a tribute to the rich tapestry of worlds SEGA owns or collaborates with.

This initiative not only rewards long-time fans but also invites newcomers to explore SEGA’s vast portfolio.

In addition to new racers, Patch 3 will enrich the game’s soundtrack with eight handpicked tracks.

Players can look forward to racing to classics such as “MAGICAL SOUND SHOWER” by Hiro (OutRun), “Let’s Go Away” by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi (Daytona USA), and “Soul on Desert” by Jun Senoue (SEGA Rally 2).

Additional selections include "Like The Wind (B Course) Arcade Version" (Power Drift), "Outside a Crisis" (Super Hang-on), "Main Theme" (Enduro Racer), "God Only Knows" (A-One), and "Like the Wind (Reborn)" by Sampling Masters MEGA (Power Drift). This comprehensive update underscores SEGA’s ongoing investment in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and its community, offering fresh experiences on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms via the eShop and other digital storefronts.

As the company continues its Sonic franchise initiatives—spanning merchandise, live events, and new media—Patch 3 represents a significant milestone in its 2026 content roadmap. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Patch 3 releases March 18, 2026, with character rollouts and musical updates extending into May.

Players eager for crossover racing and classic SEGA nostalgia should mark their calendars for this pivotal free DLC launch.
