Jagex has acknowledged player reports of blurry visuals in RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Nintendo Switch 2 and outlined a roadmap of short- and long-term fixes.
The British studio said the new open-world survival title, released for Switch 2 last week, prioritized frame rate stability over resolution and visual fidelity during development and that the current build does not yet meet the team's visual expectations.
In a detailed message to the community, Jagex said the Switch 2 build is not where the studio wants it to be visually and confirmed a commitment to improve picture quality.
The developer explained that the perceived blurriness is caused by a lower output resolution when running the game on Switch 2 hardware, and that addressing this will take time.
Jagex outlined a two‑pronged plan: immediate optimizations and a longer-term engine upgrade.
The studio said it has identified a mix of short-term performance and rendering optimizations that can be completed in the coming weeks, alongside a larger architectural investment to move from Unreal Engine 5.6 to Unreal Engine 5.8.
Jagex noted that the team was unable to upgrade to UE 5.7 during platform debug and certification, and that 5.8 brings chipset optimizations and the Lumen Lite option, which the studio expects will benefit lower-spec hardware such as the Switch 2.
The developer made clear that improvements will arrive incrementally rather than via a single sweeping update.
Jagex promised to publish patches whenever meaningful visual gains are achieved and to continue working on both short-term fixes and the engine migration until the Switch 2 experience meets player expectations.
Jagex also confirmed ongoing coordination with Nintendo.
The studio said it has been in contact with Nintendo about patch processing timelines and about updating Nintendo eShop assets that were captured using simulated hardware settings matching Switch 2 specifications.
Jagex reiterated that it is committed to ensuring Dragonwilds looks and plays well on handheld consoles alongside other platforms.
Additionally, Jagex confirmed it will roll out another hotfix this Friday that increments the game to Version 1.0.0.5; patch notes are available on the Dragonwilds website.
The studio asked players to continue providing feedback as it works through the planned optimizations and engine update.
