The open-world survival-crafting title from Jagex launched last week and is available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide.
In a developer update, Jagex said the Switch 2 build "is not where we want it to be today, visually," and committed to ongoing support for the platform.
The studio explained that it prioritised frame-rate stability during development, which led to a lower output resolution on Switch 2 and the blurriness some players reported.
Jagex described this as a conscious trade-off to secure a stable play experience at launch, and pledged to improve picture quality over time.
Jagex outlined a two-pronged approach: near-term optimisations and a longer-term architectural upgrade.
The team said it will pursue a series of short-term performance and rendering tweaks over the coming weeks, and it also plans to move the game from Unreal Engine 5.6 to a newer engine build.
Jagex noted it was unable to upgrade to UE 5.7 during cross-platform certification and has since earmarked UE 5.8 for its additional chipset optimisations and the availability of Lumen Lite, which the studio expects will help lower-spec hardware including Switch 2.
The developer warned that improvements will be incremental rather than delivered in a single dramatic patch, and committed to releasing multiple updates as visual gains are achieved.
Jagex is also coordinating with Nintendo on storefront assets and patch timelines, and said it has provided images captured on simulated Switch 2 hardware to reflect the platform's display resolution, as used in the Nintendo Direct trailer.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds blends RuneScape lore with survival mechanics on the new continent of Ashenfall.
Key features include skill progression and questing rooted in RuneScape, cooperative play for up to four players via GameChat, and survival-through-sorcery systems that allow players to craft, farm, and face threats such as the Dragon Queen Kuldra.
The game features reorchestrated RuneScape music, new creatures like the Garou, and classic foes such as Zogres and Black Knights.
Jagex reiterated that Dragonwilds is a long-term project and asked the community to continue providing feedback as the studio issues patches and engine upgrades to improve the Nintendo Switch 2 experience.
