Classic MSX2 Games Return: Wonderland of Carbuncle and Super Tritorn Launch on Nintendo Switch eShop

D4 Enterprise, renowned for revitalizing retro classics through its EGGCONSOLE series, has announced the release of two notable MSX2 titles for the Nintendo Switch.

Compile's 1991 puzzle-shooter Wonderland of Carbuncle is now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop, with Sein Soft’s legendary action RPG Super Tritorn scheduled to follow on February 5th, 2026. Wonderland of Carbuncle: A Unique Spin on Shooting Gallery Puzzles Originally debuting on Disk Station #25 in 1991, Wonderland of Carbuncle is a distinctive puzzle-shooting experience that celebrates Compile’s iconic mascot, Carbuncle.

Priced at $6.49 on the Nintendo Switch eShop, the game transports players to whimsical tree-themed stages where they must gather falling apples and face off against quirky enemies and bosses. According to the publisher, Wonderland of Carbuncle stands apart from conventional shooters by integrating innovative mechanics.

“Instead of simply shooting foes, players collect apples that periodically drop from trees,” a D4 Enterprise representative noted.

“Once the timer expires, a Pelican carrying a basket appears, prompting players to toss their collected apples into the basket.

This action opens a new window, unveiling the stage’s boss battle.

Overcoming the boss is key to advancing.” The combination of apple collection, strategic timing, and engaging boss encounters gives this Puyo Puyo-inspired title a fresh appeal, making it a valuable addition for both genre enthusiasts and fans of classic Compile games. Super Tritorn: Expanded Adventure Classic Arrives February 5th Slated for release on February 5th, 2026, Super Tritorn is an enhanced port of Sein Soft’s revered 1986 action RPG.

Taking full advantage of the MSX2 platform’s advanced graphics and MegaROM cartridge technology, this version offers revamped visuals, expanded maps, and a broader array of gameplay screens. Players assume the role of the hero Tritorn, journeying across the island of Luanda to collect five legendary elixirs and fend off the sinister demon lord Pay Balusa.

The game’s side-scrolling action blends sword combat, jump-based maneuvers, and strategic encounters with monster adversaries.

D4 Enterprise explained, “Timing your attacks and utilizing jump strikes for double damage are core to gameplay.

Beyond straightforward battles, players also solve puzzles, such as gaining key items by defeating sequences of enemies—significantly boosting replay and engagement.” Modern Enhancements and Authentic Presentation Both Wonderland of Carbuncle and Super Tritorn come equipped with quality-of-life features typical of the EGGCONSOLE series, including save states, a rewind feature, an English-language how-to-play section, and a dedicated gallery.

Importantly, the games retain their authentic presentation, preserving the experience that made them favorites among MSX2 enthusiasts. These releases continue D4 Enterprise’s mission to bring classic Japanese titles to a wider audience on the Nintendo Switch, reinforcing the ongoing appeal of retro gaming in the digital age.

Both titles present an accessible opportunity for newcomers and veteran players alike to explore seminal works from developers Compile and Sein Soft through the Nintendo Switch eShop.
